At least some of the Dark Horse Godzilla comics are collected into TPBs - so if you're primarily interested in reading [versus collecting] the comics you might see if the store as any TPBs on hand. DH's series was published in their early days so all their G comics were black and white to begin with - I believe they has a few reprinted in color though.

And earlier this year Marvel released their Godzilla series in an 'Essentials' compilation - the Essential line is all Black & White reprints of the comics [originally in color].

I just recently bought a bunch of Dark Horse comics from a small shop. They are a fun read and I enjoyed the art, so I would recomend getting them.
My favorite of them is probably the Godzilla, King of the Monsters Special, which has an excellent story.

I have one of the Dark Horse TPBs and enjoy reading through it from time to time. The artist did an excellent job drawing Godzilla. I have to presume that the rest of their Godzilla comics are well done too - the DH's G comics are definitely worth a look.

I've never read the Marvel series myself [though some folks here have] - so I can't really give a worthwhile opinion on it.

If you really just want to enjoy reading the stories the TPBs may be the best way to go - as it's handy having them compiled into one book. However - sometimes it can be cheaper to just pick up the individual comics - the seperate comics could have some collector value but usually when they're priced that low there usually isn't much demand for the comics either because of a small pool of collectors for the comic or because there's just a large quantity of the comics on the market.

My advice is to get it [be it the comics or the TPBs] because you enjoy/will enjoy the stories and don't be too concerned with 'collector value'.
