how Toho had stolen all his ideas, no wait, that might have been the next one. i forget, actually, but it was so filled with the wrong words (typos corrected incorrectly) that it made it very unintentionally funny. i've never had any poor dealings with Dutch, he's always been quite nice to me via e-mails, but that article was just... well, it was what it was.

A few things:

1) This thread will stay on topic, or it will be closed. The topic, btw, is the current issue of G-Fan magazine. Although it may stray a bit into other topics such as IMAX, Dutch, G-Fest or "GFW: Sweet or Suck?", there are other threads to discuss those topics in detail.

2) Unfortunately, I held off saying anything about Dutch's review or Kaiju Nexus' review of the review (or rather paraphrasal of the review) until I'd actually seen the issue (which always comes late to me... must be an alphabetical or zip code issue) and read the article in question. What I should have done when this started is what I wanted to do a week ago: to ask that we not go off on some "Dutch: Sweet or Suck?" tirade since he is not here to defend himself or his article (assuming he even has to). That's really just so unfair, especially in light of the fact that it seems to me that his review was not properly quoted, and perhaps not even fairly characterized.

Get G-Fan #72, read it yourself, and make up your own mind. Same goes with GFW itself. See it this weekend, and make up your own mind!

3) This is the internet. As a single channel of communication, it sucks beyond belief. You guys are friends, and my understanding is that those friendships pre-date Al Gore's invention of the internet. Get together at G-Fest, shake hands, have fun, share The Love. That's an order.

I gotta agree the issue as a whole wasn't too bad and the supposed re-make of Japan Sinks really has my curiousity peaked, but I am really getting tired of the digs thrown at GMK. The same article that I just spoke of(JS remake) had the line calling GMK a pedestrian(?) entry in the series with good special effects. How hard would it been to make the statement recognizing the effects work without belittling the movie itself? And as for GMK, I would call it anything but "pedestrian", but then again, maybe I'm being overly sensitive...

calling GMK pedestrian is pretty accurate.
