I remember reading something about the DH Godzilla title and why there were no other Toho kaiju in it. It was because Toho wanted the same amount of money DH paid for the rights to Godzilla for each additional monster character. I remember Randy Stradley saying something about his jaw dropping.
And did anyone ever notice that the DH G-Force team was basically a Japanese version of the Fantastic Four without super-powers?
I have fond memories of the Marvel Godzilla series, as I was collecting it when it came out in the 70s. I wish I still had those issues. Marvels series lasted only 24 issues but it was a ton of fun. Red Ronin, Yetrigar and a sewer rat being a few of Godzillas' more memorable foes.
I've recently decided to stop collecting comics for the most part. Marvel really reeks these days and while DC still puts out quality material (Geoff Johns is the best comic writer of the past 20 years) the books are too expensive. IDWs' new Godzilla series, along with their new Ghostbusters stuff, may just get me back to the comic book store.

From ICv2 (industry online newsletter), pretty much confirmation of what's already been said:

Looks like I hit a nerve, eh?

Why am I not surprised that you'd be the first person to respond to that comment...

Yeah, I think Jelly's right, that's really not a proper application of the term emo. At all.

Nonsensical. Fruitless. Silly. These all described the LP discussion.

Meanwhile, back to comics. While I took the use of other monsters to mean they might get individual miniseries, but thinking back that may not be the case. Odds are, since there is a precedent, they'll do something like they do with their TF series. Their Spotlight series focuses on different characters, so I wouldn't think a Godzilla: Spotlight series would be too unlikely.

Possible interesting news:

Bob Schreck leaves IDW comics to start a comics division of Legendary Pictures.
