Mothra fifty year anniversary book

Postby Thomas » Sun Aug 07, 2011 2:16 am

Anyone pick this up or have any information on this book? Does it have lots of pictures from the movies and behind the scenes? It looks like it could be pretty cool.

This is by the same company (MOOK) that published the outstanding TOHO Actresses/G-Girls book awhile back which I posted about here:

I will look for this Mothra book tomorrow at a local Tsutaya bookstore in Utsunomiya and let you know...

Yeah that's me.

If you recall I saved you from a possible bad purchase as the book is damaged just enough to be distracting. Someone thumbed through it extra hard and put indentation/creases in it. The book's content is so good though that I've actually ordered a replacement copy thru Books Sanseido and plan on selling my damaged copy when the replacement arrives.

Ok, here are my thoughts:

Just got done looking through this....I’m not going to write a super lengthy review (working 72-80 hours a week lately....total complete BS), so here is a quick summary:
This Yosensha MOOK company is a breath of fresh air when it comes to kaiju books, as they are putting out some dynamic and interesting stuff...their TOHO Actresses book I purchased a few months ago was fantastic. I am happy to say that this new Mothra book is no different....truly spectacular stuff! :th-up: Even if one not the biggest Mothra fan out there, I still recommend it to all kaiju enthusiasts....it’s the definitive history of Mothra. TONS of behind the scenes stills and concept art from Mothra’s showa films...many of which I have never seen before. One particularly interesting item was a pre-production/early concept drawing from the original Mothra ... a 4 legged Mothra, with 2 of its legs having feathers resembling a bird/chicken’s legs ( :o  :eek2: :!: ). This “half bird/half mothâ€
