I didn't even know I wanted a toyline like that until just now!

I hope they aren't selling those for more than $1. They look like the toys I can get at Dollar Tree. Also, why make a Kong figure so big if he barely has any articulation?

^ Because these are toys for small children. Sure, the soldiers are simplistic, but they're just part of the playset - packaged with monsters, vehicles, and weapons - and the 18 inch Kong is the centerpiece of the intended playset, with all the characters roughly to scale.
This toyline may not be for me, but five year old me would be all over it. I think kids loved Godzilla in the '14 film, and were underserved by the toys. It seems they're trying to correct that here.
... I wonder if Pacific Rim will also get a kid friendly toyline? It really deserves one.

The only thing the line currently seems to lack is a giant foe for Kong to take on - presumably a large-scale Skullcrawler. The articulation on the Kong we are getting definitely looks adequate to sate my interest for a bit, definitely friendly enough to consider for my nephew, and can happily hang out with the Jakks Godzilla. Here's hoping Bandai can get in on the collector market a bit later.

The pakaging and art for this stuff is also a lot better than the lame stock image and generic package design for the Godzilla '14 merchandise.

Wow. Getting a
MAJOR 1976 Kong vibe from this piece of artwork.
Looks like my poor wallet just keeps getting emptier.

That big Kong looks like he'll make a great sparring partner for the Jakks Godzilla.

Saw these today: Kong really is enormous! Packaging is really cool looking, and seeing 'em up close really sells value: a monster, vehicle, soldier guy and weapons for $10?
Not for me. But at a certain age I'd be going nuts for these.

Saw pretty much all these at Walmart today. Gotta say, as a parent, if my kids were the right age (they're still too young) I'd definitely buy these over most other things at the same pricepoint. Sure they're clearly a "budget" toy, but the quality of Kong seemed quite good. The plastic was much thicker and he was heavier than I would've guessed. The $10 packs have a ton of bang for the buck. I honestly would've expected these to be at least $15 even with the "budget toy" look.

I think my ONLY complaint for the Kong is that they didn't bother to at least do simple cut joints at the hips. Nothing fancy, but they would've been great especially since this thing, strangely enough, has ball jointed ankles.

I can't believe that as huge a hit as this movie is there isn't much in the way of merchandising.

THe toys flew off of the shelves locally (Well, there are a lot of the larger vehicles). Though I do think it's strange that there's not as much of the general merch like wallets/t-shirts/blankets and the like. Godzilla 2014 had a ton of that stuff.

I saw a mom picking out some Kong toys at Walmart yesterday. Too bad Kong himself was sold out. Well... maybe that's a good sign actually.
