The recent conversation about sculpts made me wonder what people look for in sculpts.

As someone that collects both realistic and stylized sculpts, i think i look at shapes more than the proportions. For instance I am easily willing to overlook tail length but have a hard time accepting a blocky mouth. I think this is why the SD (super deformed) style works and is generally accepted, because the character still has all the features and shapes of the original, just with different proportions.

I think textures are important too, but poor textures can be overcome by a good paint job.

When it comes to realistic styled figures, I look for a good texture. I'm not fond of shininess in Godzillas, and prefer flat matte finishes in the plastic.

Accuracy.

Seriously I look for accuracy in the head, legs and the potbelly. Also I like detailed fingers and doublejointed type of positionings. Texture as well, I don't like the Godzilla figures with the snake like skin, thats cheap. It has to be the crinkly wrinkled skin that only a bark of a tree can define.

It depends, Accuracy mostly, but if something is cool it's just cool. That's why I own a lot of Marmits and the like.

Screen/comic accuracy. I want it to be as accurate as possible with loads of articulation.

I prefer screen accuracy, but I do not mind stylizations. As long as the stylization doesn't look like it belongs in a Happy Meal bag.
