Weekly Character Spotlight #31 - Matango

Postby KaijuZoo » Mon Jul 14, 2014 3:27 pm

After a hiatus, I thought it was time to drum up some new interest in the old spotlight series. Perhaps it should be changed to a monthly focus as there are not very many characters left. But a few come to mind such as King Seesar, Legendary Goji/Muto, Ebirah, SpaceGodzilla, Destoroyah, Kamakiras, Kumonga, Rodan, Showa Mothra, Shobijin/Fairy Princesses, Guirara etc. Which other figures/characters have been overlooked?
Here is the , I would ask Klen7 to update it with Matango.

Matango has always been one of my favorite films, excellent plot and great characters with lots of suspense. Here are a few of the Matango's from my collection, starting with the Marmit Vinyl Paradise series (VP-23).

I don't have any Matango stuff, but we could always do some Ultraman kaiju.

Yay! These are back!

Re: MM,
The Ultraman threads were terribly unpopular even when these threads were going strong. You might want to look over the master list and see if you can buff up the previous Ultra threads

KaijuZoo, gimmie that tricycle variant!

Back in the states again for a year before I head back to Japan, so thought I'd stop by. 'Bout time the Weekly Character Spotlight got to Matango! :D Recently re-organized my collection a bit (and trimming it down a bit), so here is my Matango collection!

Pictured: 16 M1s (my favorite sculpt/variants), 1 X-Plus, 2 Toygraphs(way in back), 1 Marmit

Not Pictured (Still in Japan): M1 Kumi Mizuno, M1 Purple-ish variant, M1 Duplicate variant as in the picture, but has a signature by Kubo Akira, Toygraph Brown variant (the sculpt is the one that looks like early Matango concept art)

General view of my Matangos (with some other M1s)
Image

Points of Notice: Tricycle M1 is dope, and KaijuZoo custom with the eyelashes (still can't believe our crazy design idea worked! haha). Also the Matango is holding a Matango (also M1).
Image

Points of Notice: Tokyo Toy Festival Trio set. I'm told there were only 50 of these made but not sure how accurate that is.
Image

Points of Notice: X-Plus Matango with some of the BEAM Matangos (I love the tinsel they put inside the see-through vinyl)

I was debating on selling off X-Plus, Toygraphs to just have M1-exclusively, but undecided yet :?
I know there's not too many M1 variants left for me to get, but they're also pretty rare. According to ClubTokyo, there's 4 M1 variants I need yet (including the unpainted green variant), I think there 2 tricycles yet, and the M1 transforming Matango. There was also a standalone vinyl mushroom released too that I saw multiple times in Japan, but the price was always way more than I wanted to pay for just a vinyl mushroom. Never got into the smaller stuff or other companies too much. If anyone has any M1 Matangos they'd be willing to part with please send me a message.
