Weekly Character Spotlight 21: Atragon and Manda

Atragon is a favorite film of mine: great mecha special effects, an underwater dragon, and interesting characters (yes, you can post pictures of figures of the Empress of Mu as well!!).

Image

First up, the Atragon and Manda combo set from M1Go, released at the Tokyo WonderFest 2/24/2008.

Image

This release of Manda was unique as M1 added a few body segments to their previous version which allowed Manda to better wrap around the Atragon submarine.

I wish I had the chase with the Atragon.

Thats funny. When I saw the preview picture you posted I thought "it looks like the M1 but it can't be, its too long!..." I will have to keep an eye for this release since the more common sculpt is so much shorter. Definitely an improvement and a top notch paint job too (which seems to be common among more of the recent M1 releases)
It will also be interesting to see how this thread stacks up against Titanosaurus since both kaiju seem to be disproportionately under-represented

Marmit Atragon, Monster Heaven version from 2006 - about 12" long.

I never got around to getting the bigger Aoshima version, now that was a sweet figure!! Anyone got that one to display here?

Another view of the Monster Heaven Atragon on display in my case - kinda looks like it is in drydock.

Marmit Para Baby Atragon with drydock base and matching PB Manda with Empress of Mu accessory, both sets from 2002.

And here is an additional close-up of the Empress of Mu - she is so cool, calm and collected!

Two of my three Manda figures are currently in storage; hopefully I can get over there this weekend to free them. Meanwhile, the one Manda I currently have available to photograph:

Yet another view of my Monster Heaven Atragon on display, this time with better illumination.

Here's a pretty cool collectible, this is an original printing press block from the early '60's
used for printing the Atragon movie advertisements in the newspaper. About 2.5 by 3.5 inches.

Would kill for that Marmit Manda, lol.

Anyway, I only have one Manda in my entire collection. And that is the one from the Bandai Creation Pack of Destruction.

Let me jinx it by posting something, but I have a bid in now on an M1. Hopefully I'll have a post to contribute in a couple weeks

::EDIT:: i won the auction. it was for the long M1 Manda in the Black/Red lacquer paint scheme.
