Weekly Character Spotlight #10: Anguirus '68

For this week's character spotlight, I've selected my favorite version of my favorite Godzilla ally, the scrappy, spiky fella whom I first new as Angilas, but modern standards insist I call Anguirus.

For my initial contribution, I give you the Bandai standard scale Anguirus '68.

I usually try to take new pictures if at al possible for these threads, but I'm feeling a little lazy tonight. So, here's some "stock footage" as it were. Appropriate considering some of the movies this suit appeared in....

I haven't seen that Monster Heaven figure before! Really good sculpt, and a cool paint job!

It really is a fantastic sculpt. And I love this paint job. It's close enough to his real colors but also fun and whimsical, in keeping with the somewhat stylized, toyish sculpt.

There is another, much more screen accurate paint variant that's a matte brown that some people really like. But it just feels too lifeless to me for a sculpt with such great personality.

Yeah, not generally a Monster Heaven person, but I am drooling over that sculpt. Well, not really; that would be hideous. Regardless, want!

Alright, I'm trying to space out my own submissions for this thread, but, since it's going a little slowly, here's another (though not nearly one of my favorites). I believe this is a bootleg version of the HG Anguirus that Klen7 posted above:

On some of the older more retro and stylized figures such as Bullmark, Marmit VP and Yamakatsu, it is hard to tell what is a '55 or '68 or '72 or whatever. That said, a few pics for your consideration and hopefully enjoyment!!

I had the Yamakatsu figure when I was a little kid, and didn't even realize it was from the Godzilla series (despite my definitely having seen some movies in which he appeared). When I later saw a picture of Anguirus in Jeff Rovin's Encyclopedia of Monsters, I realized I'd had the toy, and that was one of the things that compelled me to get more into the Godzilla series. Alas, I'd long since sold the toy at a garage sale by then. Imagine my delight more than a decade after that, when I realized I could get the figure on ebay!

Anyway, here are a few more pics of that one, as well as the Monster Island figure, both of which KaijuZoo already posted posted better images of:

There is something about the Yamakatsu figure that has always appealed to me... and once again, i think i need to add a Marmit Parababy to the wish list

I still have 3 to take pictures of and post, but all of them have already made an appearance, so it won't be that exciting...i was hoping to see more of the stylized figures this time around.

Currently it looks like you only have 2 choices for the next spotlight that haven't gone already
