This has been a weird year for toku toys. Yeah, some cool and very big releases happened this year, yet I try to think back on it and few new releases barely stand out, and only some for the wrong reasons!
Things I've liked:
- Bandai UMS Earthtron!
- Wide range of X-Plus releases, closing in on DAM cast
- MonsterArts makes Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla relevant
- Gigabrain King Ghidorah
Things I haven't liked:
- Pointless, overpriced 4" X-Plus Ultraman line
- MonsterArts King Ghidorah woes
- Almost nothing else from Marmit/Gigabrain
- Is it 2014 yet???
Favorite NEW figure: MonsterArts Little Godzilla. Holy "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!", I never thought I'd be so in love with any figure of the little goober. Maybe the world is coming to an end...
Favorite NEWLY acquired figure: Trendmasters Doom Island Varan. I never thought I'd buy a Trendmasters toy in 2012, let alone one as rare as Varan for a price so low, but 2012 has been good to Trendmasters. Shame 1998 wasn't!
Least favorite NEW figure: Ultra-Act Red King. At least the arm articulation and the rocks redeem him. All those sacrifices for articulation otherwise, Y U NO ARTICULATE WELL???
Least favorite NEWLY acquired figure: I think every other Godzilla toy I've bought this past year has been a newer one, so... can I say Red King again? Seriously, "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" you suck. I expected so much more after the fantastic job that Bandai did on Golza.
