One favorite item in your collection?

Postby canofhumdingers » Fri Feb 11, 2011 1:33 am

I just finished completely dismantling my entire display room in preparation for renovating it (or redecorating at least). As I was pulling all my stuff of the shelves, I got to look at (ok, play with) some stuff I hadn't really paid attention to in a while. It got me to thinking, of all this stuff, what is my absolute one favorite thing that I just could never let go? (granted, I'm not really one to part with many things from my collection, largely b/c I only buy the stuff I really want/like).

The honest answer is actually really easy for me. It's my 1/6 Sideshow Darth Vader. But this is a Godzilla forum, so i guess I should pick something from my Kaiju collection...

It's honestly a really tough decision to just pick one favorite as I have a few Godzilla items that are among my favorite collection pieces. I guess the top three contenders would be my Gigabrain 1964 Godzilla, the Marmit 1984 Godzilla, and the Kaiyodo 8inch 1984 model kit.

The Kaiyodo kit was something I'd dreamed of for years (a very screen accurate version of my favorite Godzilla) & finally bought at G-fest in 2005. It was a labor of love that I worked on off & on for several years before finally hunkering down & finishing it (moving 3 times and nearly 900 miles during those years didn't exactly help speed thinkgs along). I'm still proud of my work on it & it remains a prized piece.

The Marmit Monster Heaven 1984 Godzilla was something I desperately hoped to find when I finally took my dream vacation to Japan a few years ago. Sadly, it was not to be. But I did manage to make a contact who could get me the glow version when it was released after I got back to the States. It's still one of my favorite figures.

But, ultimately, I think I have to go with the Gigabrain 1964 Godzilla. It was the first Godzilla item I bought on that trip to Japan. It was quite a journey just to find the store in Akihabara (down a side street, in the basement of the building). But when I finally did, it was the coolest store I've ever been in. A tiny place packed to the point of near overflowing with every type of high-end vinyl (& otherwise) Kaiju toy you could imagine. Once I picked him out, he traveled all over Japan (including being stored in a pay locker in Osaka for two days) with my wife & I for two weeks before making the long flight home. Add to the sentimental story the fact that he is, imo, THE toy to beat all other toys of my favorite showa Godzilla (& it even appears as though Gigabrain went for the G:TTHM look) from my favorite showa film (again.... Ghidrah) along with it being my first glow figure & I just can't think of any other item in my Godzilla collection I like more.

So, what's your favorite?

I really have to narrow it down? That's impossible.

Oh, come on, Legion, you can do it! Admittedly, it would probably be difficult for anyone to pick just one out of your extensive collection, but surely there's one that stands out because of a story or something particularly unique?

My Bandai Godzilla Gold Toho employee figure. SHEER LUCK that I got it. And I actually paid nothing for it,as it was thrown in with the boxed '91 Godzilla I ordered. And I paid 5,000 Yen for it. SUPERSCORE!

The Gamera keychain is the most important item in my collection followed closely by the Legion keychain. I only have the one keychain of Gamera and eleven of Legion. I am on the lookout for another Gamera keychain and have yet to find another, well except for the one a friend of mine owns.

It's really hard to narrow down anything to one favorite item.
I appreciate my Imperial Large Scale Godzilla as it was my very first Godzilla toy, and that thing went everywhere with me.
Another favorite is my Vinyl Paradise Godzilla 1955, which was my first VP Marmit, which is something I had wanted since the figure was released back in the 90's.

I suppose my most favorite is my Bullmark Gorosaurus, it's vintage, in rough shape, but it's one of those toys that I've always wanted. It just looks so cool. I remember seeing it in a group photo on the internet back around 98/99 and deciding it looked awesome. NOW IT IS MINE.

Wow, talk about Mission Impossible....I guess *at the moment* it would be my Gigabrain Mosu-Goji 64 or Kingu-Goji 62...
