cool, i never knew that about the billiken kits. The only ones i've ever seen were the regular unpainted versions.

I'm the person who posted the question to begin with.
Well, I did end up ordering something from OtakuShopTokyo.com, even though I could get confirmation from no one about them. Their price was just too nice to pass up. (I guess you've all been there before.) Fortunately, the product was superb -- & packaging was extremely careful, & the thing was shipped fast, getting to me from Tokyo to NYC in @3 business days.
Strangely, the postage ended up costing THEM some $16 more than their charge (they charged me "only" $42, as this was a large-scale Bandai figure). This leads me to think that they seem to be somewhat novice at the game, as witness the fact that their product prices are all over the place. Have a look & you'll see what I mean. And yet they claim to be a business only recently converted over from having been anime specialists...
Moral of the story: Seems that as long as you know your prices, & don’t fall into buying a $60-ish Billiken kit (albeit assembled/painted) for 480 smackers, you might just find something worthwhile. I feel grateful & lucky in this instance, but I'd still say proceed with just a bit of caution.
