Kaiju figures rendered in Gold and Silver?
Posted: Fri Jun 12, 2009 2:28 pmHowdy folks, I had this conversation with one of the guys at my work who just happened to be an ex-silversmith. He noticed a couple of little SD Godzilla figures I had on my desk and we got to talking about how one would go around rendering such a thing in sliver, with precious stones for eyes. Apparently it wouldn't cost that much, around $15 an ounce for the silver and maybe $25 -$50 to get it cast (this is sans precious stones for the eyes of course.)
Is there currently any company out there that makes gold or silver renditions of Godzilla/Ultraman type characters? The most I've seen of anything like this is a Ghidroah statue made of some kind of rare wood. Is there a market for such a thing?
Not sure if I would do this of course (would have to save up for the capital, or get an investor, although I have the ability to sculpt the figures myself probably.) But it's something to think about if there's a market for it. If I were to do it, it would be as one of a kind "art pieces" with the lost wax technique so there would be no duplicated (also which don't require any kind of licensing of course.)
So what do you think?
