I use an ostrich feather dust on my figures, it collects dust wonderfuly and is very soft.

personally, my favorite thing for cleaning all of my action figures & toys is a synthetic "feather" duster. Much like the smallest one in this picture:

It's "feathers" are very soft plastic fibers that "swish" back and forth like a really REALLY soft paint brush. As they swing around, the fibers create a static charge that kind of helps to "suck" the dust off your figures. The fibers are extremely soft & I can't imagine them causing any damage or paint rub except maybe on the MOST fragile paint applications. Even then, i'd think it would take a really excessive amount of dusting to damage anything. Unfortunately i seem to have lost the one i had, so i'm looking for another one.

In the meantime, I've found that Swiffer brand dusters (not the floor mop thingsm but the dusters) also work well, but they are harder to get into really tight spots with b/c they don't "swish" around nearly as much.

I've got a few figures that have some smoke damage (becasue I used to smoke, quit a year ago.) Mainly the white has become yellowed. How would one go about restoring that, or is that even possible?

Luckily, nothing I have that is damaged is irreplaceable, but I'd like to try at least.

I don't have anything incredibly rare or old, but I've always just either rinsed under the sink lightly or used a soft wet washcloth. A few figures I have used a toothbrush on (soft bristle type) to get the dust out of the crevices.

And I'll agree with Bio Goji about the smoke, I bought a 2004 Mechagodzilla Theater exclusive on ebay more than a year ago which smelled very smoky. Despite leaving it in a box with baking soda, cleaning with soap and water multiple times, before resorting to using foaming cleanser spray on it, it still reeks like an ashtray. So this is my "Lives in the garage Mechagodzilla."

Turpentine worls nicely for me --- J/K!!!!

I usually use those static dust rags on my figures except for those that have glitter on them - works ok for my once a month wipe down
