The Vinyl Figure Awards round 46: GODZILLA 1971 REMATCH

Last year I did a Godzilla poll that incluced all Godzilla styles between 1968 and 1971, which I did because the Godzilla seen in all those films used the same monster suit. Marmit's 2005 Monster Heaven version ended up taking first place and with the mysterious popularity of Hedora in Japan, there have been several new 1971 Godzilla released since then. So I decided to do a rematch just narrowing things down to the 1971 Godzilla vs Hedora version of Godzilla. Lets see which figure takes home the gold this time:

The Champion:

Marmit's Monster Heaven 1971 Godzilla, released in 2005. It was released during the short period in which Marmit experimented with flat finish vinyl and was sculpted holding Hedora's "orbs" in his hands.
Previous standing: first place

The Challengers

Originally released in 2005, this battle-damaged, aggressively posed CCP 1971 Godzilla was initially released in a glossy vinyl. This year, CCP re-released the figure in a flat finish complete with splashes of metallic paint to simulate splotches of blood and Hedora's gunk.

Last year Marmit re-released the MH 1971 Godzilla as an exclusive figure, resculpting the arms to remove Hedora's orbs. It was released alongside a translucent "concept art" Hedora figure. The figure was re-released this fall cast out of a translucent vinyl with attention paid to the battle damaged eye and hand, although they were placed on the wrong sides of the figure. This toy was also released alongside a Hedora figure, this time a re-release of the 2004 MH version cast from translucent vinyl.

The returning champ gets my vote here. I like the pose and the inclusion of the orbs. While the Marmit re-release gets some points for including the injured hand and eye, the incorrect placement really hurts it. And the CCP figure...no. Huh-uh.

Yeah, I'm sticking with the champion once again. I love the inclusion of the orbs.

I went Monster Heaven. Quite simply a quality Godzilla toy.

This CCP is actually one toy I will not be buying - it does nothing for me - and the newer Monster Heavens just aren't as good as the original.

Hands down the 2005 Marmit MH G71 for me. Not only does it look fantastic, but it's unique as well as it is holding both of Hedorah's eyes/eggs/whatever. One of Marmit's best figures of Godzilla IMO....

The Marmit 1971 Godzilla with the two balls in his hands also does it for me as well. Third place would undoubtedly go to the CCP one (in fact if one looks close enough and is somewhat paranoid, that looks almost like the 1967 suit instead of the 1971).

Congrats to all the winners of the forty sixth round, who all recieve special badges of honor: black Godzilla for third place, silver Mechagodzilla for second place and gold Ghidora for first place!
