New REMOTE CONTROL Type 66 Maser Cannons from Aoshima!

Postby Moonlight SY-3 » Fri Sep 21, 2007 3:44 am

Looks like I jumped the gun when I bought the static 1/48 scale Aoshima Type 66 Maser Cannon when it came out a few months back...now they're offering them in remote control versions! I haven't seen one in action yet, so I can't comment on the quality of the movement...but it sure sounds like a cool idea.

They're not radio controlled, but remote controlled...there's a cable connected to the back. But I still want one!

And to go with all the Maser Cannon nuttiness, Aoshima's also releasing a big 1/48 Gaira, too! Oh, my aching wallet...

Maser Cannons here:

Gaira here:

I'll post more about the Maser Cannons and Gaira when I actually see 'em!

Well that sucks. I didn't buy either of the previous ones so I'm not biased, but it's pretty clear they planned this in advance, and considering how expensive these are I think it's bullshit to drop motorized versions right after releasing the originals. Expect radio controlled versions a couple months after these are released.

Double dipping on $20 DVDs is one thing, but $150-$200 die-cast toys is just BS, esp. so soon.

At least Apple had the good grace to offer their iphone customers a rebate.

I agree. I think they've really shot themselves in the foot with this one, because I doubt many people are going to get the new ones just for the remote control features. As much as I'd like one, I already bought the static one...and it's plenty cool enough for me.

I wonder if they'd take trade-ins?

However, if I didn't already have the static one, I'd be all over this, no matter how shifty their release schedule may be.

I'll be meeting with the Aoshima guys at the Tokyo Puramo-Rajicon Show next month, and I'll grill them about this then.
