The Vinyl Figure Awards round 34: HEDORA REMATCH

Ok so here's how the rematch polls are going to work. I'm going to take the first, second and third place winners of some of last year's polls and match them up against new contenders, i.e. any new toys I've gotten of those characters between then and now. Simple right?

For the first rematch I'm starting with Hedora. Now the interesting thing with the original Hedora poll is that 7 figures ended up tying for third place. So here I'm just pitting the new toys against the first and second place winners. Some rematches will be a little more interesting than others. In this case I don't expect things to be all that different from last time, but who knows. I could be wrong.

And without further ado...

The Champions....

Here's M-1's Final Wars version of Hedora from a 2007 Lucky Bag. It's unpainted, but it's the only version of this toy I have.

Released in the Monster Heaven series in late 2006, this is Marmit's "concept art" version Hedora.

Finally, here's the first new Pilot Ace figure to show up in these polls. This figure was released just this year.

Cheater - you don't have the new Bandai Creation one yet. :P

I'm all for more unique kaiju, believe me, but I'm no big fan of Hedorah. I wasn't so indifferent to him last VFAs, but things change, and I think that's influencing what figure I choose this time compared to the last.

In this case, I will have to go with the M1 Final Wars sculpt. The Marmit one must have been one of those that tied for third. If it had made it into this poll, I might have chosen it. I don't even remember what I picked last time.

I really wanted to vote for the Pilot Ace. I love the colors and the fact that it towers over the Godzillas in the line.

But I had to vote for the Bandai figure again. Size aside, the thing is a work of art. Bar none.

The Pilot Ace is SCREAMING for my vote with those great colors, but the Bandai is another highly coveted figure for me. I wish I could vote for both!

Since I voted for the Bandai last time though, I'm going to give this vote over to the newcomer. :)

Thanks for posting that picture, Richard. Maybe the M-1 will receive a few more votes that it normally wouldn't have with just the picture I posted.

Marmit's Monster Heaven Hedora, released in 2004.

That's the Marmit MH Hedorah I figure I have :D

It's a terrific sculpt and an underrated Hedorah figure in general. And the paint scheme, while not entirely accurate, fits the character well (unlike some great figures and sculpts in the MH line which were often ruined by rediculous color schemes, such as solid purple, pink, yellow, glow in the dark paint schemes, etc). While not as accurate as the Bandai Hedorah 6 inch (which I also have and it's very accurate and terrific), it really captures the spirit of Hedorah and it just screams "HEDORAH!". Plus it's 9 inches and scales perfectly with 8-9 inch figures from both Bandai and Marmit.

The Bandai 6 inch is also great, but it's inaccurate scale with other 6 inch figures knocks it down a notch for me. And I don't like the 6 inch scale in general to begin with. Sorry 6 inch vinyl fans.

By the way Legion, I know you hated GFW, but the Monster Heaven figure of GFW Hedorah is fantastic...the sculpt 100% dead on accurate. ...far superior to that M1 figure in this poll. Although I will always prefer the original showa Hedorah design to the 30 second rushed design of the GFW Hedorah, the MH GFW Hedorah is one of my favorite figures in my collection...

For me it was a tie between Marmit and Pilot Ace Smoggy, but I went for Pilot Ace, despite the really odd color scheme.

That concept art Hedorah is just odd. Kinda looks like someone rammed a pump into him and started inflating him, Dig Dug style.
