Ahem...

Alright folks, grab a soda, a beer or your beverage of choice and get ready for another season of the Club Tokyo Vinyl Figure Awards. Last year's awards were so successful that I just had to bring them back. So get ready for 20 more rounds of vinyl figure goodness. And this time there's a twist. Some of our rounds will feature rematches pitting previous first, second and third place winners against this year's newcomers. Lets see if last year's winners can hang on to their titles. The competition looks fierce, so we might as well get started.

It doesn't make sense not to start the competition with the king of the monsters himself. So our 31st round goes to Godzilla, seen here in his most recent incarnation from the 2004 film Godzilla: Final Wars. Like it or lump it, the movie certainly had a dynamic and memorable Godzilla suit. So lets meet the challengers.

Here's Bandai's 8" FW Godzilla from 2004. From left to right there's the theater exclusive, the standard version and the HMV store exclusive.

Next up here's Bandai's rescaled 6" FW Godzilla, released in 2005. Sometimes bigger doesn't mean better.

Here's Banpresto's FW Godzilla. Similar to the Bandai, but with a more dynamic pose.

This FW Godzilla hails from the short-lived Bandai Museum line, and was released in 2004

Finally, here's Marmit's take on the FW Godzilla, released as part of the Monster Heaven line in 2005

I voted for the Banpresto Godzilla. I love the pose on this one. It takes the Bandai, which is a well done figure in it's own right, and does it one better. Definitely worth owning even if you have the Bandai.

And I'm going to add right now that the Bandai Museum figure is the biggest piece of sculpted crap I've ever seen. I'm definitely not worried about that one pulling a Gorosaurus and taking the gold.

I'll go with the original Bandai 8" figure.

It's easily the most impressive, I don't like the pose on the Banpresto.

This is a tough one. The Bandai duo and the Banpresto aren't exactly like night and day here. Mike, could you possibly do shots of the two Bandais from the side, to better compare with the Banpresto?

EDIT: Ok, I got enough of a look elsewhere. My vote also goes to the Banpresto, but I'd have no problem settling with the 6" Bandai since that's the scale of the majority of my figures these days.

i went for the 8 inch bandai. It's close between that & the banpresto, but i love the "blue ice" of the theater version, so there ya go.

I like the 8" Bandai but I think I am gonna go with the Banpresto, both very similar but I like the dynamic pose of the latter..

Kind of disappointing. No discussion since Monday and I see quite a few familiar names are missing. This is ending Saturday so if you haven voted please do.

EDIT: And without explanations I have no idea why anyone would vote for that horrid Bandai Museum figure.

Congrats to all the winners of the thirty first round, who all receive special badges of honor: black Godzilla for third place, silver Mechagodzilla for second place and gold Ghidora for first place!
