Aurora as Vinyl...

Dos anyone know WHY Marusan chose to base its first Vinyl Godzilla (indeed the FIRST Vinyl Godzilla) on the Aurora model kit?

It just seems really odd to me that they would use the American model kit, which is not very true to the character, to produce a uniquely Japanese toy.

Kind of funny how an American model kit helped kick off one of the most important Japanese vinyl toy lines in history.

Cool, thanks for the info, John. Actually I stumbled on that Sci-Fi japan article after posting this yesterday. LOL

But, what they didn't have was a picture of the Plamodel. That thing is all kinds of cool and does resemble the Aurora kit quite a bit. Plus it could walk on its own. Definatley something that someone should consider re-issuing.

It is a very powerful testament to the FAR REACHING popularaity and just plain AWESOMENESS of the Aurora Kits that they had the power to actually inspire a hobby in another country that has become WORLD WIDE.

Think about it...At several points in recent history you could go into a toy store in America and buy an Aurora Godzilla Kit. Then in even more recent history you could go into a toy store in America and buy a Godzilla Vinyl which exists BECAUSE of the Aurora Kit.

Such, I believe, is the power of the collective Monster Kids.
