The Vinyl Figure Awards Special Edition: BARUGON!!

Postby Legion » Thu Mar 29, 2007 9:05 pm

Well I didn't expect the Gamera figure awards to become an ongoing thing but here we are on another round, and this round goes to Gamera's first enemy: the long-tongued, rainbow-throwin', diamond hungry Barugon.

And lets meet the contenders....

Image
Well seeing as I don't own any vintage Barugon figures I guess we might as well start with Bandai's original 8" Barugon, released in 1991. Will anyone share the Bandai love with this guy?

Image
Next up is Bandai's 1999 6" Memorial Box reissue of the same figure, albiet cast out of a softer vinyl, painted differently and with a wide open mouth.

And here's Marmit's Vinyl Paradise Barugon figure, released in 1997. I'd love to backtrack and try to find the Parababy and Monster Heaven versions of many of Gamera's foes, but this late in the game they appear to be rather elusive.

Released sometime in 1999, along with the Gamera in the previous poll, is this X-Plus Barugon. What skill! What strength! What a tail!

And finally, here's Sega's Barugon figure, released in 2002. My opinion is that these Sega figures deserve more recognition than they actually get.

I'm voting for the Seag Barugon. Aside from the nose horn - which is a little too long - this figure is just about perfect. Makes me with Sega had done the regular Gyaos, Viras, Jiger and Zigra.

Well, even though I am primarily a Bandai fan, I know a better figure when I see it and my vote this time goes to Sega...I'm glad to see that you've brought the Vinyl Figure Awards back Legion! :th-up:
