Solution: buy the SHMA for yourself and buy a NECA for every member of your family this Christmas.

Like, I want the SHMA one, but I also want to support NECA making what looks to be a very high quality figure.

I dunno. I get that, but in the end, I want what I’ll be happiest with. And historically I have vastly preferred SHMA. I’m not a loyal SHMA diehard. I do my research and only get ones I truly want. But in my experience they truly look and feel like high end collectibles that look like they walked right off the screen. NECA, on the other hand, even their best figures (like G’54) just feel.... clunky. And the sculpt details can border on amateurish under close scrutiny.
The only exception re: NECA has been G2014. With access to the digital files the sculpt was spot on and the figure feels far more refined and professional than any of the others I’ve bought from them.

NECA just confirmed they're doing Godzilla: KotM figures, and they have the license to do more than just Godzilla himself this time.

Hope that they use the same digital sculpting technique from g14 on the new ones too.
And since they're doing Mothra, Ghidorah, and Rodan, does that mean they could make other version of them? Say, the Showa versions? I mean, I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I can still hope.

There's no contest here for me - if the NECA's joints all work like they should, this G62 looks well worth $20. The SHMA looks better, of course, but not $75 more better. I'm not spending that much on one figure, anyway (I've only done that for, like, one scenario).

I'm going for the NECA because it's 20.00, and I'm sort of moving away from these sort of figures. I think both look good, but I'm just more likely to drop 20 for the NECA one.

Got my 1st Neca yesterday. The '54 Godzilla. Dont think I am opening it up. Nice looking sculpt and the weight did surprise me. No visual defects from what I can see. Very pleased right now.

New S.H. MonsterArts figures of the stars from the upcoming Legendary film. Looks pretty epic!
EDIT
for some reason the Mothra and Rodan images aren’t working. Here’s direct links.

UGH. Sorry, I just realized those two are links to 4chan. They are the correct images, but if I find links elsewhere I’ll try to repost them.

http://klen7.tumblr.com/post/1815830599 ... collectingThe original version of this was close to 90 pictures, so i edited it down considerably. Going to put a little more thought into it for next year

Nice write up Klen! I wasn’t aware there were so many stylized vinyl releases going on! Outside the various companies contributing to Medicom’s Vinyl Wars line, I didn’t know about any of those releases. It seems like X-plus, NECA, and S.h. MonsterArts get all the coverage and discussion in the U.S.these days. And no doubt, I those lines (just got the Large Monster Series Godzilla 1965; it is a true thing of beauty!). But I still love the stylized likes of Marmit, Gigabrain, etc. too! I had no idea marusan was putting out such a volume of new figures. I’m glad to see that Adult Mothra sculpt from Marusan continues to get new colors reissued. It’s been on my list of figures to track down “someday” since I saw the unpainted glow version in the Vinyl Wars line a couple years ago.
Oh, and dude! Don’t cut out the pictures! We want to see all the pictures!

I am curious, where do you keep up with these releases? It certainly isn’t the message boards or websites that I’m aware of (as I mentioned, x plus and MonsterArts are the media hogs everywhere I know to look, with some bones thrown out to NECA and bandai from time to time).

Wow, that Gappa set is awesome. When I asked about where you keep up with the releases, I meant what news outlets/sources do you follow to find out about them? But if you keep a running list on your tumblr, that would be a great source!

all over.
X-Plus, Marusan, M1Go = company website
Y-MSF, Marusan = Instagram
Sunguts = Twitter buried between 100s of non-release posts
Marmit = after they do a run of 50 at a festival and are no longer available under $500 and show up on auction sites
SHMA, Neca = social media
Sofvi.Tokyo does a good job pulling together press releases for some of the stylized sofubi companies, so thats a great resource, but there isn't a one stop shop that i know of
