Thanks to a new job that works with the school calendar I'm currently in the middle of my first real Summer vacation in about 14 years. But what do you do when you can't afford to go anywhere good and you have no one to go with you anyway? Well in my case you treat yourself to an impulse buy at one of the few remaining "Godzilla shops" in my area, which is Toy Tokyo in NYC. Yes, I'm using this paragraph to justify an pointlessly expensive purchase.
Toy Tokyo has
a lot of expensive Godzilla from just about every company. There area few Bandais but the majority of their stock includes figures from Marmit, M-1, Marusan, Gigabrain, Pilot Ace and
tons of Toy Graph '54 Godzillas and Hawaza Gumi figures. For those interested they actually have at least four different variants of the Gigabrain Gigan, including the standard green and the metallic blue. I know someone here was interested in that one. While I browsed, at least two employees made note of the sheer number of Hedora figures they sell. And it's no joke. Ebirahsmeg would probably hang himself.
But among the zillions of Hedoras were not one, not two but
four different variants of the new Gigabrain Hedora, the only figure from that company I don't have. They weren't cheap, but they were all beautiful figures. I was tossed up between a blue one and a black one, but in the end the black one finally won out.
I didn't take a picture of it but this thing actually came in a huge black box, probably because this figure is just so damn large. At a foot tall and about 15" long, this is definitely the overall largest Hedora in my collection. The sculpt on this one beautiful. It's not as good as the 6" Bandai or the Marmit kit, but those were realistically styled figures. If you're looking for an awesome Hedora in the Marmit/Marusan style, this Hedora is definitely the one to get, if you feel like parting with the money. Believe me, I like this figure enough that, if I could afford it, I would have grabbed the blue and purple versions they were also selling.
I regret not getting this figure when it first came out because I obviously would have gotten it cheaper. But it was the only gap in my Gigabrain collection and that was enough to justify the purchase for me. At this point though, I can't picture myself buying any more Hedora figures for a long, long time.
Here it is with the 6" Bandai and a Marmit Monster Heaven:
And with the Pilot Ace. And I thought
that figure was big:
Oh and I ran into these things on the way out of the store, opened a box (they were packaged blindly) and in the end bought an entire case. I ended up with an extra Fry. Anyone want it? $10 even.
