I know there are some small flaws with the G85 figure, but when I took it out of package, I felt it was very nice and acceptable. I almost even wanted to name it "George".



You can get an almost perfect swim pose with the G85. I would not force the head too much, but some for it to look more angled, but there will be moreso the eye pupils that look ahead than the actual head.

The figure should have had a little large torso and we all know why now that the torso and body proportions are like they are. It was because the original head was going to be smaller. So when the outcry came out about the head, it was worked on and put on the same body that was visually for the smaller head. Yet it does not distract too much. I am just glad to have a figure of my favorite Goji that looks good and is way better than any smaller, less expensive figure from before. And I am glad it was a gift. HAH! Brightened my holiday, especially after the passing of my 16 year old dog just before Thanksgiving. *pardon my ramble please*

For what we got, it is okay in my personal opinion. Though we could ask NECA to consider doing a 2.0 of G85 sometime down the road.

The G54 looks like it will be a solid presentation.

I'll admit the underbite photos that popped up first really got me down. But I'm glad that's not the case. It's not perfect, probably not even great but, damn it, it's good enough. I do hope for a 2.0 or maybe an SHMA figure down the line. But as it stands, I'll be picking this figure up if I'm not gifted it this christmas.

Now, on to the '54. That looks great. Although with the way the legs are, being based on the suit with all of its folds and whatnot, should we expect less articulation this time around? The pics of it from the conventions or whatever made the legs look like solid pieces that could swing back and forth but not much else. I hope it's not the case, and it wasn't a final product by any means, but just a concern that I hope is ultimately unfounded because the figure does look beautiful.

I just got G85 today. Badass toy, even with the slight inaccuracies. The only issues mine has are some stiff joints on the knees and torso, so I'll be using a blowdryer to wake them up.

Sure, the body leaves something to be desired, but I tell ya, as soon as I got a good look at that head, I knew I made the right choice in picking it up. Very happy to finally have something to represent G85 in my collection.

I also picked up the G'85 today at my local comic shop. I was very on the fence about him based on the pictures. Seeing it in the box I was still kinda "meh" but the headsculpt looked pretty good. And I'm a big fan of this Godzilla suit so I've been looking forward to this guy since it was announced. And after picking up the G'14 a month ago, which is a figure that I think they absolutely knocked out of the park in every way, I was hopeful this would turn out well.

Out of the box it's definately a mixed bag. The head sculpt really is quite good. In fact I'd say it's the best thing about the figure. Really, most of the figure is pretty good. The most glaring issue that throws the whole thing off is the legs and feet. There's just no getting around how inaccurate they are. But with some work posing it can at least be minimized. The other noticeable flaw is that both the spines and tail are too small. I remember someone complaining about the spines' sculpt being inaccurate and that there were too many. I compared it to my Kaiyodo model (which is spot on) and the spines are actually sculpted pretty darn accurately (except down the tail where they become very generic and not even remotely similar to the actual suit). It's mostly the size and a little bit the placement of the spines that's making them look off. The one other thing that I found a little frustrating is the wrist pose and articulation don't allow you to very easily pose him in the typical "reaching" or "clawing" pose that this suit usually made with its hands. Instead it looks like he's holding a beer can. But that's a pretty minor issue. The body itself is actually pretty well done and I really have nothing to critique on it.

So in the end, I'm happy I have it. It's definately got some flaws, but with the right pose and lighting it can look pretty cool.

TL;DR:
Decent figure with a great headsculpt.
Spines are accurate sculpt but slightly too small.
Tail could be longer.
Legs and feet are way off.
Over all can be made to look decent with a good pose.
In the end, a good but not great figure.

My brother nabbed on today. Hmm him and I agree. It isn't horrible, but it's not great either. The head sculpt is fantastic, but the body is everywhere. Some of the molding itself is great. But then we have the undersized spines. They are kind of accurate, but we feel they're too... soft. Rubbery and too small compared to the suit. The tail is severely undersized. Really undersized.

The range of articulation is pretty good really. But the legs and feet seem weird. Maybe if the torso had a bit more musculature?

It looks really great in some angles, like in the angles usually seen in the movie (looking upwards to show off his size).

I'll say it again, Bendy Tails suck, and it's kind of beating an old horse by now, I wish NECA stopped making their figures so rubbery or glossy looking. Also >Godziller Is Green.

Got mine as well. It's not a GREAT figure by any means, but it'll do. I've always wanted a 6" figure of this Godzilla, so I'm happy. The feet and legs are a bit off, but if posed right, they look okay. I wish it had finger grips like the '94 did, but oh well...

Now the anticipation for '54 begins. Burning Goji comes out before hand, but he'll just be a redo of '94. I'll still get him, but wish '54 would come out at same time.

I took some pictures of the NECA G'85 as well as some group shots of all my '84 Godzillas. It's interesting that they are all based on the suit, except the Marmit, which is a rather accurate (though stylised) sculpt of the Cybot. The others in the group are the 20cm Kaiyodo kit, the 4 inch Hyper figure, the little Yuji Sakai candy toy diorama series (I took him off the cityscape base for these shots) and a little SD figure. One day I hope to add the 30cm X-plus (surely Diamond knows this would be a huge seller!...), the original Bandai (also based on the Cybot) and the 6 inch vinyl from the memorial box. But this is what I've got for now.

As for the NECA toy, I've warmed up to it. It's really got three things holding it back from being a really great figure. One, the feet are just totally wrong and too small. Two, the legs are too long with thighs that are too thick. And the articulation at the hips and knees is not nearly as well thought out or effective as it was on the NECA G'14 and actually seems to exacerbate the issues with the legs rather than help hide them. And third, the spines start too low on the back, are too tightly crowded together and the largest ones aren't quite large enough. The legs and the spines combine to result in the overall shape of the figure not really capturing the overall shape of the suit from certain angles or in certain poses. But it's certainly a good toy, especially for the price. It's just too bad that it's not GREAT, because it had the potential.

After looking very closely at the Neca toy's fins and comparing them to the actual suit I've figured out what makes the placement seem off. The first fin on the torso body segment should actually be up higher, onto the neck. If you moved the fin I've circled below up to where the arrow indicates and then spaced the rest of the fins out a smidge and increased the size of the largest four or five fins by 10-20% you'd have a MUCH more accurate figure. And I think it would significantly help with the overall shape i mentioned in my last post. And, of course, you'd have to move up and space out the two side rows of fins an equivalent amount as the center row.

Is it safe to say Godzilla 84 is the rarest representation of Godzilla in toy form?

IDK, my guess would be G'65 since it looks so much like G'64 no one really bothers with it?

I think '65 could certainly be as rare, if not rarer than '84 in toy form. But you know what I'd say is actually possibly the rarest version seen in toy form? G'93. In fact, I don't know of ANY toys that are specifically based on the 1993 suit. When the movie came out they just reused the figures based on the '92 suit. And then after spacegodzilla came out the '94 suit became the de facto face of Heisei Godzilla. The only thing I've ever seen that was specifically modeled on the '93 suit is the occasional model kit.

EDIT: I forgot Marmit did a G'93 in the monster heaven line. Seeing in the clubtokyo archive reminded me why I forgot - it's one flippin' UGLY figure! And to me it looks more like the '94 suit than the '93.... I dunno
