I know that the lot of us as adult collectors generally want Showa stuff badly, but from Bandai's perspective, going with the Heisei designs must make sense. For the most part, Showa Godzillas are going to be most recognizable to older fans, but Heisei has crossover appeal within Japan as well as abroad (cable TV, Trendmasters, etc.) and hits older collectors (most of us) as well as newer collectors and guys remembering the Big G from childhood.
The kids that grew up on the Millenium stuff won't be of quite the right age to be interested in or afford a line this expensive, and Showa stuff won't register as much with the younger generations. I suspect that Bandai did the numbers on this kind of market research to determine stuff like what I'm just postulating here. Or they threw darts at a Godzilla dartboard to determine who they make first. Hell if I know, but I'll be buying SHMAs regardless!
