What a surprise...another Hedora.

Seems like "Godzilla vs Hedora" is right up there with the first film nowadays as the most popular Godzilla movie of all time.

I'm really, really getting tired of this character. At the very least this gives the 1968 Godzilla suit more exposure...but still.

The International Talk Like a Pirate Day isn't for two more days, Mike.

Doesn't sound like you're too knowledgable of the specifics of Godzilla toys, who makes them, what sizes/models, etc.

Go to this website: www. clubtokyo.org

Look at all the figures made by Bandai and Banpresto. They will be what you're looking for. Legion will recommend a company called Marmit - don't listen to him, he's crazy. :D j/k Marmits are nice, but $$$.

Also go this this website: www.vinylmaddness.com

It goes into specifics of Bandai toys and their history.

I'd recommend both website's Yahoo discussion groups. I'm part of both, they're both good, but Vinylmaddness's will typically see more exclusively toy talk because of its small membership size, while Clubtokyo does get a lot more general Godzilla banter. Jean C. at VM also does a good job answering questions about the toys you're after if you join the VM yahoo group. He has a huge Godzilla collection. If you post a question here there are many here who can help you out too.

Prices are in their prime right now; everything you'll want is going down and becoming more readily available both from dealers (GO TO G-FEST NEXT YEAR!) and eBay.

As far as displaying your toys/wear, even slight wear on the paint on sharp pointed edges like toes and spines isn't seen by anybody I know as being a huge downer. Most of the toys you see will have this, especially the 11+ year old toys.

When I started buying older Bandai toys, I wanted them to be in the same condition as my newer ones. Realistically this isn't possible, and I've come to terms with that. Everyone has to or you'll see nothing but upset, and that's pointless. If you want perfection, start building $400+ model kits, because you won't find it in any toy. Still, most Bandai's are still in great shape. You will not have trouble finding any Bandai toy (except the really rare/exclusive ones) in good enough shape for you to be happy with - it just takes some time. And you can always upgrade. Most hardline collectors will replace pieces of their collection whenever a better condition toy comes around; I try to find toys I'm going to be comfortable with and stick with them, even if it means waiting a long time or finding one now and finding another in little bit better shape later. You have to be happy with what you buy.

People like Mike (Legion) who collect multi-thousand dollar vintage Godzilla toys are going to want to avoid situations where additional wear may occur like the plague, but us Bandai collectors don't have too much to worry about: The toys you described, again, sound like very good toys - like I said, most of the '92-styles I've seen have the wear you've described, and I don't think toe-wear is a bad thing because it's almost inevitable in the older toys. You really can't do anything about it.

I say have fun with your toys by displaying them - put 'em on sturdy shelves, dust 'em once in a while, and as long as you don't drop or scrape them you will not garner any additional wear than they have when you buy them.

As far as exposure to the air or dust is concerned, the only toys that will really be affected by this are the ones with white vinyl, I think. All toys will fade a little bit in sunlight (close the shades during daytime), but most are not historically nearly as noticeable as one - the 1992 Bandai Adult Mothra is the worst toy in this regard; it has a thick flocking in addition to the white vinyl, and yellows a lot due to sunlight and collects dust and lint like your favorite fleece jacket. Keep this one in the box if you ever get it and don't let it sit in the sunlight from a window.

Don't smoke around your collection. It yellows the tags (and '92 adult Mothra) and makes 'em smell like "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!".
