The Vinyl Figure Awards round 39: GANIME

Postby Legion » Sun Sep 30, 2007 11:19 am

Despite the cult following of Yog, Monster From Space, vinyl toys of the three kaiju from the film are generally rather rare. Only in the past three years have figures of Gezora, Ganime and Kameba been popping up from various companies. Even Marmit has never added these guys to their main product lines. For this week's poll, lets take a look at the crab monster Ganime.

Image
First up is the vintage Bullmark Ganime, released in 1970. Not much to say about it, but it's essential for the vintage collector.

Image
In 2004 the Bandai Museum Ganime became the first modern version of the character to be released. It's detailed up the wazoo, and maybe that will win it the gold.

So far this Marusan Ganime - put out in 2005 - has been the only modern vintage-style version of the kaiju to see release.

Last but definitely not least is this built-up Marmit Iron Joe Ganime. Initially sold only in kit form, fully built, painted and articulated versions of this kit were sold this past year. Since it was sold fully assembled that qualifies it for inclusion here.

It was a tough choice for me because I really like the Bandai Museum and Marmit figures quite a bit. But my vote went to the Marmit because I like the paint a little more (especially the eyes) and I get a kick out of the articulated claws.

Same, it's a tough call between those two. For me it came down to the pose, and I went with the Bandai Museum.

Wow....this is a tough one! :?

Honestly, as lame as this sounds, I can't decide at the moment. All of them look terrific (yes, even the Bandai Musuem one, a line which I always rip unmercifully, looks fantastic), so this might take me a day or two. I'll get back to you all in a few days with my decision!

It was definitely a close choice between the Bandai Museum and the Marmit Iron Joe kit, but the prominence of the big-claw, little-claw look, the eyes, and not looking like Kumonga's legs stuck onto a charred Ebirah made me finally pick the Marmit. And articulated claws? Sounds awesome to me.

Much be a real pain to find these days, I'd have to guess, which would be a shame. Not to mention its price tag had to be ridiculously high. The Bandai Museum is really not a bad alternative at least.

After much deliberation (eh....well, not really that much deliberation :P ), I voted for the Marmit Iron Joe figure. It's very acturate, full of life, and I like that color scheme, despite it not being fully accurate.
