The Vinyl Figure Awards round 33: JET JAGUAR

Postby Legion » Sun Sep 09, 2007 7:03 pm

He's colorful. He can fly. He can change size. And...that's pretty much all he does. He's Jet Jaguar, and he's the star of this round of the Vinyl Figure Awards. There have been several Jet Jaguar figures over the years, some nice and some not-so-nice. My one regret is that the giant Bullmark Jet Jaguar is not in this poll, by virtue of the fact that I don't own it. One day I hope.

Image
Without the giant Bullmark we start here with the medium size Bullmark Jet Jaguar. The original figure is on the left and a glow-in-the-dark M-1 reissue is on the right.

Next up is Bandai's original 8" Jet Jaguar figure from 1993.

Here's Marmit's first Jet Jaguar, from the Vinyl Paradise series and released in 1999, just as that line was finishing up.

Image
And here's another Marmit Jet Jaguar, a late entry in the Para Baby series funny enough, and released in 2004.

Image
Here's the first Gigabrain entry in these polls, this particular Jet Jaguar was released in several colors. Here's the unique "Evangelion" version.

Image
Finally our last entry is this year's 6" Bandai Jet Jaguar. The standard release in the middle is flanked by the Hyper Hobby exclusive "Godzilla Island" versions.

While I'm about as big a fan of Jet Jaguar as I am of Minya, my vote has to go to the Bandai 6". The Gigabrain, with it's cool color scheme would place a close second, imo.

I based my vote off of the sculpt, as opposed to accurate coloring.
Am I crazy, or does the ParaBaby version slightly resemble Don Knotts?
The Gigabrain one is pretty sweet, but there's something about the eyes that seem off to be, and it looks too much like a toy.
It was down to the 8" and 6" Bandai. I like the 8" one since the hands are open and not balled into fists like the 6" one, but then it came down to paint jobs, so the 6" one with it's silver took my vote.

As much as I do like the Gigabrain figure I had to give it to the 6" Bandai. The paint job and sculpt on this figure is simply amazing.

Maybe if his head tapered off into a point.

Okay, Gigabrain. I'll bite, and choose you. But you have to release that Gigan I want, like, tomorrow. Deal?

I just have to go with the Bandai 6". It's the only Jet Jaguar figure I've ever wanted to get. That "Evangelion" color scheme on the Gigabrain is awesome though.

I'm not surprised that the Bandai 6" took this round, but i'm definitely in the minority and voted for the Marmit Parababy. I love this goofy looking figure, whether he look like Don Knotts or not, LOL!

I do have to admit that Bandai's 6" JJ is a nice improvement over their 8", but for some reason the 6" version has never really caught my attention. I think it's either the too dark eyes or the very stiff pose. And I know that Bandai has a habit of making all their human-like figures in a stiff pose, but this one seems much more stiffer than usual, even moreso than some of Bandai's Ultraman figures.
