SRS Cinema is currently taking blu-ray and VHS(!!!) orders for Reigo and Raiga.

If they sell 200 copies, they'll push a bigger order and wind up doing a run of 1000.

I'm a lot more excited for this than the Criterion set. As far as I'm concerned, this was last week's big news in regards to kaiju home video releases!

I know nothing about these. Are they worth the $25? They look pretty cheap from the previews...

Reigo is available on DVD at Amazon for $19.95 with a late November release date if you don't want to risk a BR purchase.

I'm only interested in Reigo and definitely not interested in a limited release. I'll take my chances with a DVD copy.

They ARE planning on releasing it on DVD. That's stated in the thing shared at the top...and I believe they are in fact targeting a November release. The blu is expected to ship in September or sooner.

I still haven't seen these but I remember reading about them years ago. I will support this effort.

What a time to be a kaiju fan.

^ It's straight-up crazy how many kaiju/tokusatsu home video releases we have on the horizon. I love it!

I ordered both last week I thought I had missed my opportunity to get them but they still had copies left. Hopefully they're decent.

Word is they’ under 30 presale copies away from the 1000 run. If you’re one of the first 200,you get a poster. Something to think about...

I got my BDs in today for these and watched Reigo. The quality wasn't the greatest but I'm not blaming the company putting it out but rather the actually film stock. It barely looks better than DVD so I'd just hold out for the DVD releases of these instead of the BDs.

As for the movie itself, it was ok, not a bad kaiju film by any means but not a particularly good one either. The monster is mostly rendered in poor CGI with a few up close shots using I believe a puppet which looks way better.

Raiga looked nice on BD, Reigo was the only one that didn't look very good.

I didn't really care for Raiga that much. I'll probably get the third film in this "trilogy" for completions sake.

What is the third film anyway? Only somewhat familiar with these two, the minimal connection between them, and maybe I actually tried watching some rip of Raiga as I recall it being a very comedic affair?

I had been tracking the third film, but was unaware that it had ever premiered (or even if it had been completed) - it had previously been teased to be screened at G-Fest 2018, but that did not occur

^Yes I saw it on Target's site a couple of days ago as well when they were having the buy 2 get one free sale on media. I was hoping the BRD would have a wide release...oh well

Okay, stopped at a local WalMart and just so happened to see they broke the street date on Reigo and I scooped it up for $10.

... so, WalMart carrying it is probably why we're getting these 'mockbuster' style covers.

You know what's crazy? When I was young in the late 90s and early 00s Godzilla stuff was scarce in stores. This store had just restocked it's supply of Jakks KOTM and Bandai America figures aaand has NECA toys in the 'collectable' section - but the kicker was a display of vintage style vehicle model kits. Amid the recognizable movie and TV vehicles was a vintage military vehicle with 'Invasion of Astro Monster' branding! It comes with a Godzilla cutout backdrop and a synopsis of the film with a few stills on the side!

^ WalMart and Target home video sections vary wildly from location to location. This WalMart was across town and much more well stocked then the one near me. My local Target has really scaled there's down, but I was in another city last week and stopped at a Target and I was amazed at how expansive it was. Flashbacks to Best Buy in the '00s. They even collectors edition stuff like the new Studio Ghibli digibooks that I've never seen in a physical store.

Got this in the mail from Amazon a few nights ago. $9.95 was a ten spot cheaper than when I had placed the order months ago. After watching it, I felt that $10 was about right. The movie is the definition of UNDERwhelming. All talk, talk, talk (criminally, most of it BORING), with hardly any monster. And when it is on screen, I just cringed. It's like they simply slapped a fan-made Godzilla head sculpt onto a plesiosaurus body. Just... ugh. And yes, I realize that this is a super low budget flick that's more or less a fan film. But still. Ugh. Based on this I'm not sure now I'll bother with the other flick.
