Surprised no one has posted this here yet:

From August's article:

"...some of the lost negative elements for the full-length theatrical version of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA (1962) have recently been discovered and restored for a full HD makeover."

Looks like there may be new HD transfers in the works too. That would be great news, as I just dropped about $40 on the Toho Blu of MONSTER ZERO and it looks extremely soft (plus it's still plagued by visible splice marks).

As ecstatic as I am to hear this news, another part of me is irrationally infuriated that they didn't find this footage sooner before Toho released the movie on BD less than three months ago. lol

Wow this is awesome news! Here's hoping the new HD master is done properly with modern equipment and looks as good as it possibly can! I'd love to get a nice copy of the Japanese cut. Really wish they'd put English subs on it.

Wow, great news! I wonder if this recovery might be enough to spur the folks over at Universal to do a KKvG re-release with the original and their versions of the movie?

I know it's already a couple three years late, but Universal could tout a KKvG re-release as a 50th anniversary edition. Anniversary editions usually attract extra attention and most people aren't aware of a film's original release date/year anyways. Although if there is any merit to the rumors of Godzilla and King Kong clashing again then perhaps (hopefully) already laying in plans for new release of KKvG (and perhaps KKE).
