Kpa, I know that previous giveaways and contests have been for US and Canada only. You said that it's because Universal (or whatever company) only has the rights to distribute the movies on these territories. But I wonder, why that limitation applies to your website? I mean, Universal distributes the discs to online retailers and these retailers sell the discs to all the territories they sell to. Best Buy will not send items outside US but Amazon will, for example. So, if these discs are provided to you by Universal for contests, why is it that you limit the contest to US and Canada citizens only?

When spanish company Manga Films provided us with five copies of the Godzilla DVDs in 2005 or so for a contest in our website, they simply sent us the discs and the contest was open to anybody, I dont't think there were any limitations (and Manga only had rights for spain). Has Universal asked for the contest to be open for US and Canada people only  ?

Hi, rortiz. The shipping conditions are based on multiple factors. We deal with a lot of companies so when one of them offers product for a contest/giveaway we ask them what terms and conditions they want applied. Most of the time they only want to deal with the country/region where they have the rights in order to avoid any potential legal issues.

Secondly, Toho regularly checks SciFi Japan and they are very particular when it comes to legal/contractual matters. So I'd rather avoid causing any headaches for SFJ or the companies that are doing these contests with us.

Universal will be shipping the KKvsG and KKE Blu-rays to the contest winners, but for most of the contests I handle the prize packaging and shipping. A padded envelope and postage for a DVD/Blu-ray doesn't cost much at all, but the expenses do add up since SFJ often runs multiple contests a month (we had 4 in March alone, and have several more lined up through June), and we've been doing them for years. I enjoy doing these contests and (hopefully) making other fans happy, but I do have my limits.

Since you have a Spanish Godzilla site that's been around for many years you should getting DVDs/Blu-rays from the companies for review or to do contests of your own. Companies won't give products to every site or blog, but an established one like yours may have some success on that front.

Thanks for the explanation, kpa. It all makes sense, it's just so frustrating that every single contest I see that I'm interested on is always for USA and Canada only... :(

I'm surprised that Universal themselves will send the discs to the winners, I thought that these kind of prizes were always sent first to the contest organizers (you in this case) for organizing and shipping.

Yes, in our website we've had a couple of contests and usually companies that release Godzilla movies in Spain (it rarely happens though  ) send sample discs for review when requested. But I don't think that would work for US companies, I'm afraid  And thanks for describing our website as "established" :D , that's good to hear.

SciFi Japan's KING KONG VS GODZILLA/KING KONG ESCAPES Blu-ray contest ended yesterday. The five randomly selected winners are:

Dave Aldan
Jacob Hill
Michal Shipman
Evan Brehany
Matthew Daley

Two alternate names were also drawn as backups, but Universal Studios Home Entertainment offered to send them prizes as well. So the following contestants will also be receiving free copies of KING KONG VS GODZILLA and KING KONG ESCAPES on Blu-ray...

James Clarke
Robert Moreno

Universal is mailing the prizes this week. SciFi Japan thanks everyone who entered the contest, with a shout out to Haley Lierman at Universal for her generosity with the prizes.

The response to yesterday's Kraken Releasing Godzilla Blu-ray contest has been fantastic. And we've got several more DVD and Blu-ray giveaways lined up this month so keep checking the main site for updates!

Congrats on the winners. Hopefully someone will pick at least one of these up for an easy birthday gift for me this month. I don't purchase things for myself in April, I've ruined a few gifts that way over the years.

Thanks to a coupon I had for 10% off and some reward zone coupons I managed to order both KKvsG and KKE for just under the price of one of them.
