Judging by lose google translations these may feature new transfers just for BD. Hmmm I wonder what that means and if they'll be part of the upcoming US BD releases.

I'll probably end up getting KKvsG and if Sony does nothing, G2000 so I can finally get rid of my Region 2 DVDs.

If only they would release these with english subtitles. Even so, i'm still seriously thinking about forking over some serious cash to pick up every one of these Godzilla BD's.

I'm seriously considering buying the KKvG blu-ray, if only because I've never seen the Japanese cut.

Few sellers on Amazon.com selling the movies for $40 out of Japan, got '54 and KKvG on the way :)

While I would love to own a complete set of these blu-rays, I just don't think I can justify $1,200 for a movie collection. I'm sure they're great quality and all that, but I'm not watching Godzilla films everyday to justify the price. I think I'll just settle for the US releases, which will be significantly cheaper to collect. Maybe just buy GGvK/G2000 as others have said since we might not get proper releases of the Japanese cuts here.

Even better.

I feel sorry for Japanese fans, who don't really have any choice but these expensive blu-rays.
Gamera Heisei Trilogy US Blu-ray: $8~ (new on Amazon US)
Gamera Heisei Trilogy JP Blu-ray: $80~ (used at JP media shops)
Of course they can import our regions, with standard import costs. The reviews on Amazon JP for the US Gamera Blu-ray ($17~ new) frequently mention how much of a deal the import is and how it's basically the same quality-wise, and they don't get why they can't buy their own country's movies for a decent price.

My one question is this. What is King Kong vs. Godzilla going to look like? If I remember correctly, Toho lost any decent original film prints they had of this movie in a bad fire. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Supposedly for their DVD release they had to use a laserdisc source spliced together from substandard print sources, and saddly it shows in the murky picture quality as well as some of the artificially created shot cuts and transitions. There's even a shot near the end of the movie while Kong and Godzilla are fighting underwater and causing an earthquake when a tree falling off a cliff is immediately repeated to replace a missing shot of soldiers stumbling away from the shaking cliff. The shot of the stumbling soldiers remains intact in the American version. So if all this is true, unless Toho somehow managed to find a decent intact film print of the Japanese version, this Blu-ray release may just be an artificially upscaled version of that laserdisc source used for the previous Toho DVD.

As mentioned by others this looks like the only way I'll be able to finish my Godzilla DVD library with original versions. I do love the covers for the standard DVDs.

Wow, I totally misread your post didn't I. Mea culpa. Here's hoping Toho found a complete copy of the original version, it would be a great surprise for the fans to see it complete. (it'd be what 40+ years since that happened?)
