Finished watching this this morning, and now I'm really mad at myself. I knew the picture didn't look that great when I started watching it. It looked good, just not great. I didn't figure out why that was until I loaded what I thought was the "extras" disk. I watched the damn dvd instead of the bluray! GAH!

That said, the bluray and dvd logos on the disks themselves are pretty damn tiny and obscure, so I'm partially forgiving myself.
I really like the movie. It hits most of the series' major notes for me, but it does have pacing issues. At the beginning it moves way too quickly, and at the end, it moves way too slowly with characters having pauses and long speeches during scenes where it was obvious that time to do such things wasn't a luxury. Then again they're trying to cram an entire tv series into a movie length film, so considering that I think overall the movie hit the mark. Yeah, it sucks that the Gamalons are simplified non-characters, but the movie was already having problems allotting time for the existing crew.
This is the second time I've seen the movie, and I opted for the English dub this time which is actually very good. Towards the beginning there' s definite lip synching issues, but the voice acting itself is quite good, character appropriate, and reminded me of the ol' Star Blazers like it should have.
