Apparently Chaiyo and Sompote Sands are set to release a 50th Anniversary Ultraman DVD set, which will feature the first "six seasons" - presumbaly ULTRAMAN, ULTRA SEVEN, RETURN OF ULTRAMAN, ACE, TARO, and LEO.

Make of this what you will. The website looks dodgy as Hell.

Agreed. I read about the boxset yesterday. Depending on the details that poke through I might spring for it.

Sorry, Tsuburaya supporters, but when you're desperate for official releases stateside...

^ Yeh... I know its not the popular opinion around here, but I'll support Tsuburaya when they give me something to support. Last thing i've seen from them (and purchased) was the Tiga releases... I hear fans rave about Ace or Taro and there is no domestic release for me to check out...

I'm sorry but there's no way this boxset can possibility happen. Yes, Chaiyo Productions owns the rights for Ultra Q- Ultraman Jack but not for Ace, Tao, or Leo. If they were to release it with Leo,Tao or Ace, they may face yet another lawsuit. If I'm incorrect about any of this, Mr. Aiken, please correct me.

Hmm they used a picture of Godzilla I wonder if Toho will step in? Looks interesting I'll keep my eye on it.

It's funny, seeing certain parts of the toku fandom report on this and offering more details than are actually on the website. Literally the only piece of information on the website is this banner and nothing more:



There are no preorders, there's nothing saying it's a "Ultraman Forever boxed set" that's going to contain every series, and nothing about it tying into Ultraman's 50th anniversary that doesn't occur for another three years. Neither is there an actual list of the series included in this. Chaiyo doesn't even have the rights to distribute Ultraman Leo; their claims only go as far as Ultraman Taro, so the "6 seasons" in question could only be Ultra Q to Taro. That wouldn't match up with the touted "over 325 episodes" unless English and Japanese dubs are being counted separately or something, but being so short of information, Rising Sun assuming Chaiyo somehow obtained Leo from Tsuburaya is odd.

Resounding sigh.

What about Jumborg Ace was the other series that the dispute between Chaiyo and Tsuburaya cover.. and if you add in the Chaiyo movie and the Ultraseven Special that comes out to 325...

Mark Jaramillo, the person responsible for finding Godzilla vs The Wolfman, announced on Facebook under the Toho Kaiju Union page, that Chaiyo Productions is planning to release Ultra Q- Ultraman Taro in individual sets. After further discussion with him privately, he told me that Chaiyo Productions does indeed own Ultra Q- Ultraman Taro after having a conversation with Sompote Sands and his representatives. The idea that there was going to be a complete boxset is a rumor. Also, the Will Smith Ultraman movie won't happen.

Hopefully Tsuburaya can get licensing back for all the shows but sadly the damage has already been done and we most likely wouldn't see high quality reissues of Ultra Q, Ultraman and Ultraseven.
