Criterion will release a 27 disc set of the first 25 Zatoichi films in late November.

Can't wait to own this set. Zatoichi is my absolute favorite series in the genre of swords and kimonos.

I am enormously excited about this release. I loved Zatoichi from IFC's 'Samurai Saturdays' back in the day. I got a few on DVD, but they've been real hard to acquire. I've been waiting for a set like this to come around, but I never dreamed of such a deluxe treatment.

^And that's just the original series of films. That was immediately followed by a 100 episode TV series (also starring Shintaro Katsu as Ichi), and a single 'revivial' film in the late '80s. Since Katsu's death there's been the odd remake or reboot, but none has spawned a series.

Damn B&N...I finally got sick of waiting for a sale on Criterion stuff and broke down and bought their Godzilla Blu-ray on eBay. Same price as at B&N, but I coulda done store pickup and be watching it right now, instead of waiting until approximately the 12th through the 18th.

I still don't have the Criterion version because its hard to justify the price considering I already have at least two versions on DVD
