The '70s Ultra series are the one exception to my "no bootlegs" rule. The sets I get look fantastic and are dirt cheap, which makes up for the lack of subtitles. I could NEVER justify purchasing official R2s or Japanese blu-rays of these things, especially if I'm not getting subs either way.

Well as many guessed looks like VBG's next set was in fact the original Ultraman. I can't find any news about it on VBG's site, but sets are now showing up on eBay


Kind of odd it lists 36 +3 special (instead of the normal 39 episode count), also it has the english dub... I wonder how they got that. Hopefully it isn't just a stright port of the BCI or Mill Creek sets. Well at least all the older stuff is out of the way now if their past e-mails are right they have Ace, Taro, & Jumborg Ace coming soon... Oh and I did find another set of DVD's coming out, but its from another manufacturer---

SPEEDY (who i know has offered Ultra Galaxy etc... recently) has Ultraman 80 & Cosmos DVD's on eBay. Unfortunaterly they are about 20 for a 4 (or 5) episode single volume. Not really cost effective at this point as the VBG sets, and I've heard SPEEDY's subs are of a far worse quality. I already have a good Cosmos subbed set, but I'm having a tought time resisting the 80 ones...that is something entirely new to me.

Well I haven't gotten around to a write up on the Ultra Galaxy dvd's from Speedy because I haven't finished them yet. (I just got started on NEO) But so far the subs have been pretty good. Not perfect, but far, far better than any HK product I've gotten. I hadn't heard about Cosmos and 80 being out there. I've got a bad sub of Cosmos but no 80 so I'll have to look at that.

Thanks for the info, O.Supreme! The original Ultraman BCI set also came from Chaiyo, so I gather the contents will be more or less the same. Now I'm looking forward to the next sets!

These Ultraman 80 Speedy DVDs are VERY tempting, yes... but not at their current price. Let's hope they release a more economic set once the series is entirely released...

The Ultraman set is now available at skydvds.com. Besides the images of Ultraman Jack and Ultraman Zero on the front cover, VBG has incorrectly included the description of Ultra Seven on the back cover

According to skydvds, the release dates for these sets have been:

Ultraman Jack: June 18
Ultra Seven: August 20
Ultraman: December 11

Two months between the first and the second release, four months between the second and the third. Let's hope it will NOT take them six months to release the next set...

It isn't on VBG's own website yet, but Jmborg Ace is out, there are several of them on eBay.
