Oh, they are legit and are mostly sold exclusively in Speedy Video retails store. Speedy Video have been appointed by Tsuburaya Production as an official licensing agent for Ultraman Mebius in both Malaysia and Singapore - distributed by Movie Master(most likely own by Speedy) in Malaysia, and by HVN(100% own by Speedy) in Singapore.

This is their official ultraman website, which remain unchanged since the announcement. :?

I don't have the one you linked since I've already got the japanese collector boxset, but I got the Ultra Galaxy Daikaiju Battle DVD volumes which were released by Speedy last year. - The dubs are horrible indeed, lifeless and bland. The quality for subs themselves ranged from somewhat acceptable to well good; they are pretty inconsistent, depending on the volumes.

Anyway, the english dubs and subs are made to cater the Singapore market, but Ultraman or any toku series are never really taken seriously in either Singapore or Malaysia. - "It's kids stuff, kids just watch it for the fun, there is not need for quality, all their parent's money belong to us" kind of mentality.

Here some pictures I took of the Ultra Galaxy DVDs. - they come with slipcases.

Thanks for the info. I may pick up a few sometime. Those circle seals on the back cover though, I know I've seen those on some less-than-legal anime releases, which is one reason I wanted to make sure.

Do any of them have extras? Or just bare bones? The movies in particular, if you know.

I see Speedy have now released ULTRAMAN SAGA with English subtitles (and a dub)... that's tempting, seeing as there is no sign of this film being subtitled anywhere.

So I received Speedy's ULTRAMAN SAGA disc this morning. The packaging in lovely, and the tin case is surprisingly high quality. The only issue I have with it is the hard-to-remove price sticker, and the fact that the film's title is not on the spine.

ANYHOO, on to what we all want to hear: the subtitles. I haven't watched the whole film yet, just the first few minutes and a few skimmed moments later on, but on the whole the subtitles don't appear to be per-fect, but the issue with them is mostly grammatical, with only a few minor translation and spelling errors. Even at that, it's not wholly distracting (so far) - the subtitled dialogue itself is mostly in clear, understandable English, and will not leave you confused. The subtitles here, while not exemplary, are light years ahead of the Hong Kong subs we've had to put up with in the past. No, they're not perfect, but they'll do.

Got Ultraman Saga in the tin box off ebay. Subs are light years better than any HK release I've gotten. I have to look to replacing some of my later dvd's (the Ultra Galaxy series in particular) with Speedy dvd's

Thanks for the heads up RyanClark! :)
