The Pop-Up

Hello there,

I wonder did Criterion--in there response to fans--ever address the pop-up?

As I reviewed the Facebook comments, AND the pop culture news articles related to it, it seems that Criterion misunderstood the fan complaints: they thought the fans who were complaining were complaining about the cover art, when they were actually complaining about the Godzilla image used in the pop-up. All the news reports on this charcterize the complaints incorrectly, as though the complaints were about the cover.

Has this been brought up anywhere?

I don't think that this thread is necessary, although I did hear that Criterion asked interviews not to bring up the issue. At the same time, fans are fans — we all are going to dislike something, and be vocal about it. Whether it is reasonable or not is immaterial, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Anyhow, that is all I have to say on the matter — have a great flame war, everyone!

Maybe to a non-G-fanatic, Godzilla is Godzilla. No distinction.

I still cant believe how up-in-arms people are about this... It's a cool idea, pulled off well! Yes, it is the wrong incarnation, but Godzilla is Godzilla. And I think the way the 2002-3 suit is presented in the packaging more than stays true to the spirit of the original picture. And this pompous view that "It will be annoying to die-hard fans!" is a pile of rubbish. I consider myself a "die-hard" fan, and I think the pop-up is awesome! Man, it's no wonder that Criterion and Media Blasters considered dropping these releases...

Also: on the issue of Criterion "ignoring" fan queries - honestly, I can't blame them. They put this much work and effort and have created probably the best Godzilla DVD/Blu-Ray ever, and it's still not good enough. Fans - utter insatiable.
