I was at the bookstore today & saw an add while flipping through the latest Famous Monsters. It was advertising some cult film that was coming out on bluray from VCI (don't remember what movie). Anyway, the add also had a few other movies at the bottom which I took to mean they were also coming to bluray. One of the movies pictured was Gorgo. I just sent VCI an email inquiring about it (it's not listed on their website that I could find, just the old DVD). Here's hoping!

That'd be cool but from what I've heard...the raw materials for Gorgo are all pretty rough...I hope there's a nice print out there somewhere..

GORGO from decent materials would be great... the two VCI DVDs were pretty icky. I own the German R2 DVD, which is OK, but is still far from ideal (the framing of the German trailer leads me to believe that most transfers we've seen are overly cropped/zoomed in).

From a VCI rep:

"Hi Glenn, we are still working out all the details on the Gorgo release. However I can tell you that we will be making a new HD 1080P transfer from either the 35mm negative, or master positive, which we recently obtained after their discovery in a salt mine storage vault in Kansas. It should be gorgeous and hopefully the DEFINITIVE release. We are shooting for a pre-Halloween street date and it will include quite a bit of bonus material, which of course we are still working on. I don't mind at all if you want to give it an early mention in your column, and I will try to feed you more details as they become known."

Let's hope that they don't process it into mush like their "Santa Claus" Blu-ray...
