Oh my gawd, I hope this happens.
That's a neat, minimalist cover.

At the screening of Godzilla that I attended earlier tonight at Ohio State University's Wexner Center for the Arts, one of the Center's directors mentioned in his introduction that he had recently been to Criterion's main office and had seen cover art for a potential DVD/Blu-ray release of the film from that company. Since Hulu has been showing the Americanized version online through Criterion, it may be that he saw something related to that and was mistaken. It may or may not be totally reliable, but I thought it was worth sharing what the gentleman had to say.

A Criterion release is feasible -- it depends on the rights agreement that Classic Media came to with Toho. If CM is able to sub-license the movies, then they just have to work out a deal with any interested party.
I can certainly see where Criterion would be interested in doing a release of Gojira. Hopefully this theoretical release of Gojira would see G:KOTM receiving similar treatment in the same release.

Criterion has posted a photo of a Japanese film can on their Facebook page.
The title translates as . . .
[dramatic drumroll]
GOJIRA!

Awesome news, I saw the pic. Though I wonder what it may be used for; If they actually do a DVD/BD release I hope they use Toho's new master, not another film transfer.
