Making a widescreen dvd letterbox instead of anamorphic is one of my pet peeves. It annoys me to have to zoom in to get the proper aspect ratio to maximize the screen real-estate (not to mention an anamorphic transfer would be slightly higher resolution). But it REALLY annoys me when the film is subtitled & zooming in cuts (at least part of) them off!! Fortunately my TV allows you to move the zoomed image up or down so I can actually zoom in & then move it up so I see the whole picture but the subs are still visible. But it's still a pain. The theatrical cut "bonus" dvds of the original Star Wars & Return of the Jedi suffer from this during the Greedo & Jabba scenes b/c George Lucas was too cheap to be bothered with restoring & preserving the original cuts of the films & instead just slapped old laserdisc transfers down without even making them anamorphic... (& I do NOT buy into the whole "oh they can't be restored b/c we permanantly changed the negatives to make the Special Editions" when there are amateurs literally working from their homes cobbling together sources and making better looking transfers of the Original Trilogy than anything Lucasfilm has EVER put out on home video.....) /end rant....
So, yeah, HD Daimajin!! Can't wait!
