Freaking ridiculous if New World Pictures signed a deal with Toho to license and distribute the movie for more than 30 years. It may have made good business sense back then but.... Honestly....Toho...what were you thinking?

Not that it has anything to do with G85, but the 1971-1983 period New World films (i.e. the period when Roger Corman owned it) were never part of the later New World library, as Corman retained the existing New World library when he sold the company in 1982-1983.

Also, Toho has complete rights control over Return of Godzilla (1984) in the US right?

I hope so. After I get DAM and Megalon on blu ray. G 85 will literally be the only G film I don't physically own (except I own it on VHS... but I gave my VCR away ) If it does get released I hope we get both the American and Japanese version.

Keith have you heard anything on if CM is interested in doing BDs or sublicesning their catalog to a company to put out on BD? You'd think with the success of Godzilla they'd want to capitalize on that.

Classic Media reissued their Godzilla DVDs with standard packaging in 2012. The GODZILLA/GKOTM set is the only reissue they've done so far this year.

Well it's been almost a year since I last posted in this thread. I am going to send out another barrage of letters and e-mails to the various companies listed here (thank you Heiseigodzilla425 btw…) probably to no avail, but I figure if we ever want to see these films on any type of home media, it’s better than doing nothing.

Anyway, the only update to the first post I may suggest is removing ROM III. True it has never been released on DVD (and probably won’t be), but it does have an official North American Blu-Ray release, which I’m sure most fans would have obtained by now.

Today Sony released two sub-par DVD sets which are re-releases of previous titles, which some surmise are overstock DVD’s in new packaging (?) Although the films can be obtained for roughly the same price in better quality (Blu-Ray) separately, or for a fraction of the price separately in DVD format.

In the past year we have received news about Toho’s new Godzilla film for 2016, and recent confirmation that Legendary/Universal are building a Cinematic Universe around Godzilla and King Kong. I am including all this information (as if these companies don’t already know), to perhaps add as an incentive to release these films in the near future. If anyone has heard any potential news, I’d love to see it, but I’m sure that goes for the entire fandom as well.

So..now we have Funimations release of Shin Godzlla on BRD/DVD. The fact that it is apparently selling very well gives me hope.

Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla are OOP on DVD (thankfully I have them) , but are asking outrageous prices in the third party market.

Classic Media's six films (GRA ,MvsG, GTTHM, MZ, GR, and ToMG), are still in circulation with the original Godzilla as a DVD set.

I only hope Kraken can get Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla for release on BRD (Sony Transfers as they did for Sea Monster, Hedorah, and Gigan)


...as for the 6 films CM has...I don't know who could pick them up for release on BRD. I keep thinking Shout!Factory, but they have been historically unable to come to terms with Toho in past negotiations...

Then there is of course other films that have had no release since VHS- The Brenco films which MGM has rights to (Gorath, Human Vapor, The Last War), and Last days of Planet Earth which CM opted not to pick up from Paramount. This would have been a nice addition to the Rodan/WotG set...but whatever...I guess its time for some more e-mails and letters, for what little its worth...Unfortunately Section23 films doesn't even have a functioning website, so I don't even know how to contact them...
