They're decent, certainly for the price. The Biollante disc is probably the best. The vs. Mothra has a nice, anamorphic picture, but the sound gets wonky toward the end. Still, like I said, considering the price...

I've got the Godzilla '84 I'll let you have for $9, shipped (as long as you're in the US). It's like new (I lucked into the R2, Toho disc on eBay for a fairly decent price).

How are the picture, audio and subs on the 84 disc, Jim?

Toho Kingdom said "Sadly, the accuracy of the subtitles is pretty sub par, as one would expect from a region 3 release. They are good enough that one can follow the movie, although there are a couple of moments where the meaning is completely lost, such as the translator confusing "active sonar" as he translates it to "missiles", which is very confusing in relation to Godzilla as one could imagine."

I just wanna know how botched the subs really are. And they said the video quality was heavily pixilated, so that's a concern as well.

There was an old thread in this forum about the Universe Laser Heisei releases, but now it quite literally seems to have disappeared. I looked through the forum pages and tried searching for it, but couldn't find anything. :?

Some peeps did post screen caps in that thread though. From what I remember, G84 was non-anamorphic with iffy picture, Biollante was anamorphic with R2-quality picture but with the addition of a lot of digital artifacting (much like Madman's R4 discs, I doubt this artifacting would be noticable on a TV, just on the computer). GvsKG was non-anamorphic with very sub-par picture, and GvsM was just like Biollante. And though nobody posted any screencaps of these last three, I know that GvsMG2 and Destroyer are both anamorphic while Spacegodzilla isn't.

I remember somebody did post subtitle screen caps from the Biollante disc, and it was very Engrishified from what I could tell. Maybe those were just some bad instances, but if they're representative of the whole movie's subtitles (or the rest of Universe Laser's titles for that matter), I'd say they're not worth having. But then again, they are pretty damn cheap...

I don't own any of them myself, but my advice to you is to just buy all five of the Madman R4 Heisei releases (KG through Destroyer), and if you must have a legit, subtitled release of Biollante on DVD, well, the cheap R3 is the only one of that kind in the world. There are alternative means, of course. . . But just skip the R3 G84 altogether.

Thanks for the input, Jim. I'd like to know just how the subs for G84 are. If they are in Engrish, I may have to take some alternative routes.
