I just bought the 3-disc Seven Samurai set and the 2-disc Yojimbo and Sanjuro set for a total of $71.94 with this discount. VERY nice! :D

I'm thinking about just going ahead and buying some of their other Kurosawa releases like Rashomon and The Hidden Fortress while they're still cheap. But before I do, can anybody confirm whether or not Criterion is planning to re-release these or any other Kurosawa flicks in the foreseeable future? I don't want to go and buy these DVDs only to have them put out bigger, better, restored special editions later.

Really, the only way that Stray Dog could look better is if Criterion had DTS Digital Images (formerly Lowry) give it a scrubbing like the recent Bond re-issues, and I don't think that is likely to happen.

Though, it sounds like if they went back to the original neg. for Stray Dog it would make all the difference. And according to Richie's Films of Akira Kurosawa, the original neg. is in existence. Perhaps the neg. is in bad shape, in which case this may be as good as it gets. Dunno'...
