eBay's crazy. I had a copy of the original DVD of War of the Worlds ('53) that I put up for auction when the Spielberg remake was out. I'd heard a nice, new deluxe edition was coming out when the remake hit DVD (which it did), so thought I could get a few $$ for the old one. It went for over $107!! Crazy...

The fact that there is (or was) a copyright print of "Godzilla VS. The Thing" deposited with the Library Of Congress by American International forty years ago does not mean that it is readily available to the current rights holder...

...nor does it mean that it would make for an acceptable video presentation. It could be faded beet read, beat up, going or gone vinegar and no longer runnable, or any number of things.

I would still very much like to know what happened to whatever material both the Simitar or MonstersHD transfers were made from. Really, all that would really be needed from it would be the titles, newspaper headlines, and the Frontier Missile sequence; the rest could just be pulled from the material Toho gave CM of the Japanese version.

[RANT]

I simply don't understand all this obsessive nitpicking around the English dub version. There have been numerous home video releases of GvTT over the years of mediocre quality and zero features, and yet the release of a BEAUTIFUL subtitled Japanese print of MvsG (you remember, the one we've been clamoring for for years, and thought we'd never get???) has barely been mentioned, all at a killer price to boot. Oh my, how did we ever become fans watching crappy broadcast pan/scan versions with commercials and edits so many years ago?

Everyone has a right to their opinion but, man, some of this discussion is right up there with "Greedo shot first!", with less substance. In the end, I just have to write it off as some people would never be satisified no matter what was released. Some fans seem to put the "anal" in "analyze". Call me crazy, but I just sat back, watched and (gasp) actually enjoyed both of these discs this weekend.

I sincerely hope that those who have been dissatisfied with their purchases so far choose to vote with their dollars, and not buy future releases! I bet it would have an insignificant effect on overall sales, and surely keep the discussion more balanced.

Sorry, but IMO this is just one of those times where it feels like "fandom" is detracting from the experience, not adding to it.
