Confirmed - the left surround track contains NO audio. There is no audio in the LFE track either, for that matter. All of the other tracks decode properly.

In the case of the left surround track, this is indeed a defect. The lack of an LFE track is not surprising, as the original mix was simply a matrixed Dolby Surround track and many times the mastering engineer will not try to derive a separate LFE track from it.

If the lack of the left surround track is bothersome, switch to the Japanese 2.0 stereo track and have your receiver process it with Dolby Pro Logic. This is essentially how the film was originally mixed and decoded anyway.

Just finished watching all the contents, and...

The picture: nowhere near as good as Blu-Ray can provide, but it's still a few notches above an upscaled DVD. It fulfills the promise of HD, but doesn't go so far as to look really great. It's the difference of your kid bringing home a high C instead of the A or B you'd hoped for on their report card. Clearly passing, but nothing to brag about.

Loved the behind-the-scenes features a whole dang lot. I love seeing people working on the suits and models.

Just watched the Blu-ray, and I think it's a great release! Sure, the video isn't an exemplary example of the medium, but it's a great HD restoration, and I noticed lots of things I'd never picked up on before. And at such a low price, no-one can complain, really.
