Anyone who hasn't seen Seahawk's restoration of KKvsG needs to get on that, pronto. It looks fantastic. I'd be surprised if Toho's BD (if one ever comes out) looked better. And yes, I'm quite serious.
If Critereon were to pick another Toho SPX film to release, I personally think it should be RODAN. While the Japanese version doesn't look awful, it could use some cleaning up. The version that's truly in need of saving is the U.S. version.
The same, faded, and ugly as-all-hell video master of RODAN has been used on every home video release (VHS, Beta, LD, and DVD included), and TV airings, since the early 80's, if not earlier. If Critereon did what Sony did with their Icons set, I think we would all be happy campers.
This is all just wishful thinking of course. With Critereon being such a prestigious company, I don't know that they want to be known for releasing a string of what
most people would consider to be "just old monster movies", no matter how good they may turn out. Then again, if GODZILLA sells really well, anything could happen.
Critereon has also released EQUINOX in the past, which was pretty surprising.
