Shots look great I can't wait to get these in. Hopefully whom ever gets SoG and GvsMG uses those prints too. GvsMG was AMAZING on DVD just imagine it on BD.

Wow! The quality looks great! I'm looking forward to getting these. I can live without the speech bubbles and the original Japanese title screens....

So, instead of hunting down the Sony Gigan and then grabbing these Kraken releases, now I can safely ignore the Sony release, and maybe even sell off my Sony Sea Monster and Hedorah copies and replace them with these three, which will possibly save me some money in the long run. I would have liked the option to have both versions of Gigan legit on R1 but I've never seen the speech-bubble version of the film before so not like it changes much now.

Thanks for all the gorgeous screenshots Heiseigodzilla425!

There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I do. Immediately.

I have a 60 inch Panasonic plasma that I just watched sony's (admittedly very well done) Son of Godzilla disc on and I could easily pick out issues with the picture that were inherent to the DVD format. I was sitting there thinking to myself how I wish it had also been picked up for bluray release along with these others.

But I understand that not everyone will see the difference, especially if it's not pointed out to you. I'm self diagnosed videophile and have thoroughly educated myself on home video formats and their capabilities and shortcomings (bluray's not perfect either, but it's the best we've got by far). It's kinda that "once you see it you can't unsee it" type of thing. I know exactly what the shortcomings of DVD are and where to look for them and I've known it for so long that now I see it even if I'm not looking for it.

But aside from that, it pretty much comes down to screen size and your eyesight. I guarantee if you sat on my couch and flipped back and forth between these new blurays and the earlier DVDs you would be able to see the difference unless your eyesight is poor. Whether that difference is enough to make you want to spend the money to upgrade is a personal choice, but to me it's definitely worth it!

Thanks for posting the screenshots, I'm stunned by how GREAT these releases look! I've been putting it off, but I think I'm going to go pre-order these right now.

As for the complaints...I...what? Wasn't everyone complaining just a couple of days ago about how awful the Toho HD masters look and were worried that this release would be subpar compared to the old DVDs? I would've thought everyone would be celebrating in the streets now that we've got screenshots proving this is an HD remaster of the Sony prints.

Ugh, whatever. I'm off to order my Blu-Rays! :P

^People are reacting to not getting the speech bubbles. That's it (well at least that's my only real complaint)

For people who don't seem to understand my point of view/complaints...

While I know the Sony prints are superior to Toho's, I was really hoping to get a hold of HD versions of the straight Japanese versions without having to purchase the Toho blu-rays. I hate having to worry about always keeping a regionless (or region hackable) DVD player around for the R2s. I would love to be able to use my PS3 to watch the original Japanese releases, but as long as I'm stuck with the Toho DVDs, I can't do that.

That said, I ordered the new blu-rays. At least now I can ditch the old Sony stuff and their terrible cover art.

^Isn't Japan in the same Blu-Ray region code as us? I believe Hong Kong is, too.

Heiseigodzilla425, any chance of getting some screenshots of the more detailed miniature sets? I'd love to get a look at those to compare to the DVDs. :D

I swear since Heisei put up those screenshots, the Sony DVDs have flooded Ebay. I'm lucky I got $60 for them.
