The 2nd entry does suffer somewhat from having a very similar "villainous takeover of peaceful village plot" like the 1st film. What makes #2 standout, obviously, are Majin's kickass entry (THE coolest homage to "The Ten Cammandments" - ever), the various deeds of destruction & death heaped upon the feudal lord's henchmen, and the particularly gruesome way in which the head scumbag meets his grisly demise. Sick... in the coolest way.

#3 was just a great get away from the first 2 by using children WITHOUT succumbing to the usual plot devices used when kids are in the lead. The little tykes are headstrong and resourceful without being annoying. They are worth cheering for and you feel for them when the chips are down and it looks like they have failed near the film's climax. Hard to find a weakness in this one, and too bad it never got a stateside release with the first 2 films. Can't wait for a fresh re-appreciation when I get to behold all 3 in hi-def!!!!!

All three movies are practically equal. It's just a matter of preference for which one you like more or consider the best. That said the third one is the best. :D

I feel like there's a decent gap between the quality of the first and the second. Maybe it is the been-there done-that feeling about the second, still..

The first one is the best, the second is a less compelling retread (that still has good moments), and the third deviates enough from the formula to be fresh and interesting (the second best of the films).

Not sure if this has been answered or not?
Any chance it gets a DVD version as well?

I have the ADV version already, but would like to get the improved version (without a Blu-Ray Player).

Also for the person commenting on the so-called "Amateur" anime-dubbing crew at ADV. I have all 3 Gamera movies by them, and the dub is pretty good IMO.
Plus (just in case you did not know) many of the same voice actors now work for Funimation & Sentai since both are in Texas. Sentai is the name of the former ADV.

There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.
