Sony Godzilla Blu Rays CONFIRMED!!

Some of the folks over at Blu-Ray.com are reporting that the Sony discs have a subtitle track and a SDH (dubtitled for deaf and hearing impaired). And the movies maybe defaulting to the SDH track which uses the dub rather than the subtitle track which uses the original script.

I haven't had a chance to watch my copies yet to verify this or not, it should be a simple matter of checking out the subtitle menu and seeing what has been selected.

so, seems like if you're watching it and subtitles pop up for "loud noise" and "Music playing" and "laughter" then you're watching dubtitles.

So can anyone confirm if Tokyo SOS actually uses the name Kiryu in its subs if we are getting real subtitles?

So uh, I just decided to do a comparison between the Toho BD and Sony BD for Destoroyah.

Here is a picture I took with my camera for each movie...

I think that image alone speaks for itself, but holy crap. The differences are like night and day here. I'm tempted to just check out one or two others as well.

Yeah, looks like the report that these were Toho transfers was erroneous. Watched a chunk of vs. Mothra and all of SpaceGaodzilla and they looked like Tristar transfers to me (which is a good thing, except for the title overlays). I didn't think them using Toho transfers sounded right...

Oh, and SpaceGaodzilla is still pretty poor, but certainly plays better with this nice presentation, and the original language (which I'd never seen it in).

I can verify there is a closed caption track and then a true subtitled track on the releases. When I first started up the blu rays the Closed Caption was the default subtitles for me at least.

What the hell happened with TOKYO S.O.S's transfer? It looks like an SD upscale that was then filtered of any high frequency detail. VS MOTHRA and SPACEGODZILLA don't look so hot, either; they have a similar overall look, as if they were transferred on the same device or at the same facility. I wonder if the German SPACEGODZILLA Blu-ray from Splendid will use the same master? The PQ winners out of these discs are GvsKG and GvsMGII; they're actually pretty sharp... all the softness in them is from the many opticals, or diffusion filters on the cameras during the shoot. The shots that aren't opticals or shot with diffusion filters are properly sharp, and the grain is properly "focused on" throughout the entirety of both films. DESTROYAH is softer than those two, but better than the others mentioned at the top of my post.

I can confirm that the regular English subtitle track and the English SDH track on the Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah disc feature identical scripts. I haven't had time to check the other discs out yet.
