Sony Godzilla Blu Rays CONFIRMED!!

There's a lot of info here and I haven't really kept up, but it sounds pretty disappointing. Can you guys help me cut to the chase... Since I already own all of these on DVD, is there any good reason to get these Blurays or should I cancel my preorders while I have the chance?

Picture wise...IF in fact these are the TOHO Transfers...GODZILLA vs MOTHRA, SPACE GODZILLA and DESTROYER are a very noticeable bump up. GMK and MEGAGUIRUS look cleaner with less artifacts, but the difference is only worth it if yo have a 50 inch or larger TV. and GODZILLA vs KING GHIDORAH and GODZILLA vs MECHA GODZILLA are not really any better than the DVDs. I can't speak for FINAL WARS, since I did not like the movie and it is the only TOHO blu ray I did not pick up.

Sony already said they were using HD masters from Toho, so why anybody would be surprised that they are sub par is a mystery to me. We pretty much knew it was going to be this way for months.

As far as the dubtitles go, this does concern me if they ever put out GMK since that dub butchered that film's meaning in many places.

SpaceGodzilla is a lot of things, but that forgettable?

Most of these films are ones I don't own on DVD right now, so in that regard these sets are worth a buy from me regardless of what sound like acceptable releases rather than any over-the-top effort. Glad to have the review, but the inconsistency in noting for only some of the movies whether original openings and closings are included or not is odd.

So...based on this review, it sounds like these are indeed the Toho masters. Especially when he said that the best looking ones are Godzilla vs Mothra and Spacegodzilla...just like the Toho blu ray releases were. So a mixed bag, but they would still be with buying to upgrade your dvds. Pity they could not all be redone as improved transfers. But its a good look at the releases and a pretty good look at the series as a whole.

I think these look fine, and at least KING GHIDORAH won't have giant, burned-in, Japanese subtitles.

They may not be whatthey could have been...but they are improvements...sometimes large ones, over the dvd's...and you would have to be a twit to pass them up. I mean...Godzilla vs Gigan is a pretty poor film...but I picked it up on blu ray anyway.

The Sony DVDs shipped for me Yesterday and I should be getting them in the mail tomorrow. I'm excited to revisit the Heisei films in particular.
